It's not always the case that we manage the life. Sometimes events in life are going to manage us and the direction we are going to take. Important in such situations, especially as a CEO, is to stay calm but focused and to take decisions; specifically the right decisions.
On December 16, super typhoon Odette hit Cebu City in such a devastating way that lots of houses, offices and facilities in general took severe damages. The consequences are no electricity, no water and of course no internet for the whole population of the entire region. Thousand lost their jobs and livelihood.
For us as IT-outsourcing provider / offshore staffing company an unbearable situation that jeopardizes our existence. Clients are paying us in order to provide highly reliable remote IT staff that is permanently available to handle their different tasks on a daily basis. No services provided simply means no pay!
A fast reaction is imperative! Of course within 72 hours we made sure to provide core staff with mobile internet connection solutions, co-sharing workspaces in places with generators and possibilities to connect to our clients. But most important we took this as opportunity to overthink our complete concept. As a fact we are still a small company with less than 40 employees, flexible and highly scalable in matters of services and technology we provide. We also have a huge and very accessible workforce in Cebu.
The question was simple: what else except of thinking of generators and maybe a location change could we do to be future ready? What are our options?
The answer is quite obvious: My obligation is to create and to add value. I have to do something to ensure the existence of our business, something for our staff to secure their jobs, something for this region and the people here. Not just for highly skilled specialists, but for the entire workforce. So with immediate effect we will not just provide IT staff, but will offer more own developed subscription based software (SaaS), we will hire staff for own developments in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and business process automation. As 3rd and very important point, we will expand our activities with immediate effect by not just offering highly skilled software developers, but by providing our actual and future clients with outsourced business intelligence services such as Sales and Marketing staff & specialists, VA's, Data Analysts, Data Encoders, Data entry or appointment setting staff as a Chance for motivated, but less qualified individuals.
Here, we are talking about fresh graduates and also experienced professionals who are now jobless due to the disaster that just happened. This way we can help ourselves, the general population as well as our clients by accompanying each client through more processes and stages, ensuring and enabling us to build a deeper understanding and achieving better, long lasting relationships with clients through provision of staff at multiple qualification levels. Of course, we won't just provide the staff (that would be too simple, right?), but we will offer technological and conceptual solutions, logistics, trainings and permanent process optimization in order to enable our clients to maximize their profits with the provision of above mentioned cost saving solutions in matters of staffing and for each process involved.
That's what we call "Catastrophe as a Chance" as unique ability to react in no time on new situations and challenges. I'm quite proud of us therefore!
The hiring and restructuring started in no time- not even 5 days after the catastrophe! Our Business consultants are as per writing already contacting potential clients to familiarize them with our new services!
