Chemotherapy is one of the most commonly used cancer therapies. It employs the use of certain medications to destroy cancer cells or prevent them from spreading to other parts of the body. Chemotherapy can be taken as pills or as injections. You may visit a clinic or hospital to receive the medications via an IV infusion, as doctors refer to it.
You might take the medications for a few weeks to help your body regain strength and grow new, healthy cells. Doses could be taken once a day, once a week, or once a month. It is dependent on the type of cancer and its severity.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved cancer treatments for several forms of cancer on this page. There are both generic and brand names on the list.
