Thiel Logistik has reported an 8.5% increase in sales for H1, 2007, as EBIT before restructuring grew by 9.4%.

Among this week’s contract wins, in the UK Wincanton has signed a 10-year deal with Punch Taverns and NYK Logistics has extended operations with BSH. On mainland Europe, Bombardier Transportation has selected Penske Logistics as Lead Logistics Provider and Schenker as Preferred Carrier, whilst in the US, Pinnacle Foods is expanding DSC’s warehouse management services with transportation activities. Panalpina increases H1 profitability throughout all regions and activities

09 August 2007 - In the first six months of 2007, Panalpina continued its solid organic growth, further improved its profitability and increased market shares. While gross profit rose by 17.5%, EBIT grew by 53.5% (to CHF148.3 million) and net earnings by 56.4%. Panalpina was able to expand gross profit at a faster rate than turnover, while the month of June showed the highest gross revenue in the Company’s history. Net forwarding revenues reached CHF4,034.6 million, up 9.3%, as gross profit climbed to CHF890.9 million.

EBIT margin developed well in all regions, but Latam suffered from a negative currency impact. Noram profitability was restored and a strong European economic performance boosted EMEA results. In Asia, the Company enjoyed better air freight pricing, though sea freight saw capacity shortages and rate hikes in outbound trade.

Strong Oil & Gas and Hi-Tech verticals were among the positive vertical sector contributions.

In Air freight, Panalpina reported market growth in H1 of around 4.0%, whilst recording volume increases of 9.4%. The Company saw strong development on China-Europe, Noram-Latam, and Europe-Africa routes. The division saw strong margin expansion in due to favourable supply-demand balance and more efficient procurement.

In Sea freight, Panalpina reported market growth in H1 of around 10.0%, whilst recording volume increases of 14.6%. Asia-Europe, Asia-Noram, Intra-Asia and Latam outbound routes performed particularly well. The division saw a slight margin contraction in sea freight, to 16.5% from 17.3%, due to tight capacities and steep rate increases.

In the Supply Chain Management segment, ongoing refocusing of the Company’s service and customer portfolio saw very strong performances in Oil & Gas and project business, which led to strong margin expansion. This was due to ‘cross-selling’, customer profitability focus, and the thriving project and mining business.
