Nationwide net of electricity service stations for e-cars planned in the Netherlands

Electric mobility is finally getting into gear now. In Germany most of the electric service and charging stations are located in the Ruhr District and the Metropolitan area of Nuremberg. But that’s not enough by far!

A good example for expansion projects in Europe can be seen in the Netherlands where Michiel Langezaal and Bart Lubbers have taken on the challenge of providing a nationwide grid of service sta-tions for e-cars along the highways. 250 of those stations will be built within the next two years. We are not just talking about simple charging stations but small buildings similar to regular gas stations – only more beautiful – and covered with solar.

The roof will be done as an arch-like steel-structure with the FATH Energyroof on top, which is an in-roof solar solution with frameless modules. The patented substructure was specifically altered to fit its new purpose as a rounded roof.

At present there are two prototype projects being built until the end of April. The other stations will be gradually built until the end of 2014. The total solar volume amounts to approximately 3MW for FATH Solar.

Let’s hope that the FastNed concept will be an inspiration for similar projects in Germany and Europe.
