Press release from: iTeMoS Pte Ltd

iTeMoS is here to provide accurate and continuous core body

Our bodies maintain a close and specific range of core body temperature (CBT) through thermoregulation so that we can function healthily throughout the day, however this optimal range is often challenged by physiological, environmental, or even clinical reasons which may be detrimental to our fitness, cognition performance or even health. In severe instances, extreme CBT deviation may even be lethal.

The need for continuous monitoring of CBT is evident. However, convenient, non-invasive CBT sensing technologies today are not continuous, and can only provide occasional snapshots of the body's thermal status at best. When the body is physiologically challenged, these devices may not provide a good representation on how CBT changes over time nor can they provide immediate feedbacks to the users when necessary. Current CBT sensing technologies that are accurate yet continuous are either invasive or costly. Examples of such devices include the rectal and oesophagus probes, or the single-used telemetric temperature capsules that are commonly used in research settings.

Numerous studies have shown that the ear can be a viable surrogate measurement site for CBT. However, technology advancement and development for continuous CBT monitoring via the ear has been largely hampered by inconsistencies due to the inherent anatomy of the ear canal. Specifically, the relative depth by which the temperature sensor is placed in the aural canal can be a trade-off between sensor accuracy and safety, with temperature readings being more accurate at the expense of user safety when the sensor is situated closer to the tympanic membrane for prolonged monitoring. Our proprietary technology overcomes this problem by using multi-sensors derived algorithms to achieve the best of both worlds, giving stream to accurate CBT readings continuously without any user discomfort and safety concerns.

The technology is jointly developed by the Department of Physiology, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, in collaboration with a Hong Kong Designated Local Research Institution, Well Being Digital Limited (WBD101). A full-scale human research trial has since been completed in NUS, Department of Physiology, to refine the technology based on gold standard rectal temperature measured in the laboratory. The end product from the trial is a wireless earpiece device which could provide continuous accurate CBT readings with no discernible safety issues or discomfort reported throughout the trials.

It is from this endeavor that iTeMoS is conceived. In iTeMoS, short for intelligent Temperature Monitoring Systems, we aim to bring the novel technology to every facet of life where CBT monitoring can save and improve lives.

"These are exciting times as our proprietary technology would help to make continuous CBT monitoring more accessible to everyone in need of it." says Dr. Low, the Principal Investigator from NUS Medicine who led the human research trial that founded the technology.

Ka Sing Choo, Co-founder "We want our technology and solution to CBT to be pervasive. Any industry and company with heat related injuries or issues, medical devices manufacturers, medical AI experts and healthcare institutions will have a need for our technology. We will be able to work with them to take advantage of this technology to bring the benefits to these industry's workforce and also enhance the offering of the medical and healthcare institutions."

"Our journey begins, everything that requires CBT monitoring will be an opportunity for iTeMoS to bring solutions to save and better manage healthier lives" Benjamin Tio, Co-founder said
