New Canada Reader
The MANA-Verlag is proud to publish the new Canada Reader, a comprehensive and richly illustrated portrayal of the country, in time for the Leipzig Book Fair. The varied facettes of the country are detailed on 480 pages, including hundreds of images. It is the third publication in the Reader-Series, joining the Australia Reader and New Zealand Reader, which has established itself as one of the leading components of the MANA programme. As one of the most popular travel destinations and immigration countries, Canada has often been the subject of guidebooks, illustrated books and other travel literature; in contrast, the Canada Reader offers more than high quality images and information on tourist attractions. It offers a substantial look at the nation’s flora and fauna, its settlement history and early Canadian societies, as well as the politics, lifestyle, and culture of contemporary Canada.
The Canada-experts Mechtild and Wolfgang Opel have travelled widely thoughout the country and have met Canadians from all walks of life. The result is an informative and entertaining portrait of the nation, a book that doesn’t bury the reader under a multitude of minutiae, but instead invites to a spot of armchair travel.
The authors Mechtild and Wolfgang Opel will give a talk to introduce the Canada Reader at the Leipzig Book Fair on the 17th March at 12:30pm, in the ‘Sachbuchforum’, Hall 5.

The MANA-Verlag is a Berlin-based publisher specialising in Australia, New Zealand and North America.
The Maori word mana stands for “spiritual strength, pride and respect”, but also for “sustainabilty”: responsibly handling one’s existence. Accordingly, we present our specialty countries in a suitably facetted, literary manner.
The MANA-Verlag was founded in 1998 and was introduced at the 1999 Frankfurt Book Fair with its first New Zealand programme. Since then the programme has been broadened to include guidebooks, fiction, magazines, travel literature, and culture and science non-ficiton on New Zealand, Australia, North America, and the South Pacific.
MANA-books are written by authors who research on location, and are distinguished by their practical relevance and regular updates. Our authors have often been immersed in their subject matter for years, stand for the factual accuracy of their publication, and are open to suggestions for improvement. MANA-books combine user-friendly format and contemporary design.
