‘Dancing on Ice’ star Jayne Torvill is not only enjoying huge success on the screen thanks to the immensely popular ITV 1 show, she is also slicing through her energy bills thanks to her decision to install renewable energy heating at her home.

Concerned by uncontrollable rising fuel costs, Olympic gold medallist Jayne installed a ground source heat pump in 2011 replacing her expensive and inefficient gas central heating system. “Our previous heating system was costing a significant amount each year so we decided to investigate the alternative options available” says Jayne.

“After conducting some initial research on the internet we contacted Ice Energy Technologies who advised us that ground source heat pumps could be a far more cost-effective alternative which would also be better for the environment and provide peace of mind over future fuel costs.”

Ice Energy Technologies, who have been supplying and installing heat pumps across the UK for over a decade, conducted a survey at Jayne’s home and recommended the installation of two ground source heat pumps to provide all the heating and hot water requirements for the property. The heat pumps use a system of pipe work known as a ‘Ground Loop’ buried in Jayne’s garden to collect stored solar energy from beneath the earth. The collected ground source heat is then compressed by the heat pump and distributed via the existing radiator system to heat the property.

“The installation went amazingly well and we have been extremely pleased with the performance of the heat pumps” says Jayne. “They provide all of our heating and hot water needs keeping the house warm and comfortable whatever the weather so I would wholeheartedly recommend this technology to others.”

Ice Energy Managing Director Andrew Sheldon welcomed Jayne’s comments saying “It’s fantastic to be involved in a project with someone of Jayne’s standing and all the more pleasing that the system continues to provide excellent and has achieved all the goals Jayne set at the start of the project.

“Additionally, with the move towards electric heating in homes already underway due to the high costs of oil and gas which can sometimes be a massive four times the running costs when compared to a heat pump, Jayne has recognised the benefits for both the environment and her own costs by installing a ground source heat pump ahead of the government’s persuasive Renewable Heat Incentive which will encourage people to advance with renewables and benefit UK plc from further balance of payment issues during these difficult fiscal times.

“Clean and green renewable electricity has to be the way forward for us all in the UK and I am sure that the government’s foresight in introducing these incentives will be copied throughout Europe and beyond.”

Ice Energy had the vision to introduce ground source heat pumps to the UK over a decade ago, pioneering this technology through our national network of professional Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accredited installers. Since then we have supplied and installed more heat pumps to homeowners and commercial developers than any other company and continue to lead the market.
