Manchester-based Fractory drives sustainable manufacturing with automated quotes for CNC machining

Manchester-based Fractory has launched automatic pricing on its platform for CNC machining, which has the potential to change the industry on a global scale. The company’s approach to automated quotes differs from industry giants with a similar business model such as Xometry and Hubs - Fractory does not use machine learning to obtain information from the files customers upload for their required metalworks, but bases it on the algorithms developed in the Manchester office that are significantly more accurate in giving the customer a quote. CNC turning and milling are widely used by many industries, including automotive, aerospace and medical. By 2026, the CNC market is projected to be worth approximately £65 billion.

The Fractory team has developed in-house algorithms and technology capable of providing automatic pricing for CNC machining - eliminating the need for the time-consuming outsourcing process, where the engineer and manufacturer repeatedly exchange emails to achieve the best production solution. Fractory quotes each order automatically based on actual manufacturing logic – each uploaded file is processed to recognise the manufacturing process and properties of the part, which determine the manufacturing and shipping time and cost.

Fractory’s platform has contributed to digitising the manufacturing process by allowing engineers to upload their CAD files straight to the platform for instant pricing. This method drives efficiency, cuts costs and broadens access to manufacturing capability. Last year, the company raised £6.5M in Series A which is used to further develop the platform features and expand to new markets, including USA, Italy and France.
