An Evening of Poetry at Adelphi with Visiting Writer Maureen N. McLane
Adelphi University’s Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Program is pleased to announce its latest event, an evening of poetry with 2013 Visiting Writer Maureen N. McLane. The event will take place on Wednesday, February 20, at 7:30 p.m. at Adelphi University’s Olmsted Theatre in the Performing Arts Center (AUPAC), 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. It is free and open to the public.McLane, a poet, critic, and memoirist, currently serves as associate professor in the department of English at New York University (NYU). Her most recent book, My Poets, part memoir and part criticism, was named a Notable Book of 2012 by the New York Times and was nominated for the 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award in Autobiography. McLane is the author of several other books of poetry including World Enough: poems, Same Life: poems, and This Carrying Life. Her most recent book of poetry, This Blue, is forthcoming in 2014.
In addition to her books on poetry, McLane has written several scholarly books such as Balladeering, Minstrelsy, and the Making of British Romantic Poetry; The Cambridge Companion to British Romantic Poetry co-edited with James Chandler; and Romanticism and the Human Sciences: Poetry, Population, and the Discourse of the Species. Her research and teaching interests include British literature and culture, romanticism, modernism, balladry (British and American), mediality, 20th- and 21st-century poetries in English, the human sciences, historiography, and the case of Scotland.
She has received numerous awards, honors, and fellowships. A contributing editor at Boston Review, her articles on poetry, fiction, teaching, and sexuality have appeared widely in the New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, Boston Review, The Washington Post, American Poet, and on the Poetry Foundation website. She served on the on the Board of Directors of the National Book Critics Circle from 2007 to 2010.
