What is a Performance Review?
A performance review is a timeline of different periods, which evaluates the performance of a team, an individual or the project itself before its completion; to see how it’s doing, what’s needed and what benefits are given by each role.
Performance reviews give way to setting up better goals to get better results and to give compliment or challenge a certain person in a team to know his good and weak attributes, for him to do better in the future.

A performance review is not a bad thing; hence, it defines key-points to make people know what they need to do to keep them on track during a certain project and to let them know that they are being supported by their project manager.
On a Youtube video about Performance Review, Jennifer Whitt – Bridges, Director of projectmanager.com, mentioned that “when you hold a performance review, you need to go by a formal, documented performance review. In that it’s documented, it’s agreed upon, it’s very specific, and it’s measurable so that the person knows what they’re doing. --Have you ever been thrown into a job where you didn’t really know what your job responsibilities were and then someone coming up to you later to tell you that you’ve missed it and you didn’t even really know what you were there to do?” solving this problem is one of the aims of performance reviews; which is basically taking note of what was done, how it was done and what should be done to have a better plan for the next steps to take.
Performance reviews are sets of metrics wherein a project manager gets a measurement of current facts, and compares it to a set of standards; to see whether his project is moving successfully or declining. It’s nothing harmful to someone who accepts his weakness and work hard to fix it. Successful project managers say that handling performance reviews is not something to worry about.
In the same video, Jennifer Whitt – Bridges also mentioned that the most powerful tool for a project manager conducting performance reviews is respect. The same thing as what common Ethics say about respect. It just means that no matter how the performance review went, as long as it is employed with respect and assurance upon delivery, there’s nothing to worry about being misunderstood and losing an ally.
