Extreme Marquees is Rolling out Advanced Medical Tents as Omicron Infections Rise Rapidly

11th January, 2022, Sydney: As 2022 draws to a close and weary Australians step out to bid adieu to the forgettable and despairing year, there is a new danger looming large. The Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus had wreaked havoc across the world and had pushed Australia’s healthcare infrastructure to the brink. This had prompted what has been described as the world’s most stringent lockdown; it only ended in mid-October.

There was a cause for cheer as some normalcy returned to people’s lives. Now, the Omicron variant of the original strain has put the Australian Government on very high alert. Every incident is being treated with care and extensive modelling is being carried out in consultation with some of the world’s leading epidemiologists.

The results are not cheery: Omicron cases could touch 200,000 per day in early-February, 2022 if adequate measures are not taken. The healthcare system is worried, and rightly so. This is, after all, being labelled a ‘super-mutant.’

Other products which might get a few modifications and refinements include the isolation tents. The Omicron variant is several times more contagious when compared to the Delta variant; isolation tents and beds are as important to the patients as to the caregivers and medical personnel.

The ailing will enter from one side and will be immediately taken to the triage center where emergency treatment, phlebotomy, nasal supply of medical-grade oxygen and other essential medications will be used.

Post the critical stage, patients will then enter an isolation chamber with negative air pressure. This disallows the spread of the contagion outside this restriction zone. Once some improvement is noticed, the patients will be shifted to a low acuity zone where they can recuperate and also quarantine.

It will be interesting to note how Extreme Marquees handles the situation if there is a sudden and surprising surge in the number of desperately ill people. Meanwhile, the Australian Government has ruled out complete lockdowns but is focusing on booster doses and contact tracing.

As of 28 December, Victoria, NSW and Queensland are the worst-afflicted regions. The future is uncertain given dichotomies in the studies and effects of the Omicron variant. For example, the UK is witnessing more than 180,000 new cases every single day. On the other hand, South Africa (where the mutant was first identified) has somewhat managed the situation despite lower vaccination rates.

The bigger picture will become clear in the middle of January, experts say.
