Adam Hall presents 5 brandnew PALMER Audio Products
A line level mixing desk that satisfies the highest professional standards. Two different modes of operation are possible: dual or mono. In dual mode, a total of four stereo sources can be mixed down to one stereo output; in mono mode there are eight inputs available, which can be mixed down to two outputs. All inputs and outputs are balanced with high-quality transformers and designed for professional line levels. The input gain is adjustable up to a maximum of 30 dB. An LED for each channel indicates when the working level of +6 dBu has been reached. The output gain is also adjustable and delivers an additional boost of 20 dB max., for a total possible amplification of 50 dB through the PRM-SIGMA 8.2. A five-point LED strip provides reliable optical monitoring of output signal strength. All inputs and outputs are equipped with a ground-lift switch. Additionally, it is possible to isolate the case from the electronics ground.
The PRM-SIGMA 4.2 permits lossless mixdown of the (master) outputs from two mixing desks, the levels of which can be adjusted within a wide range, to (for example) a PA system. This is a requirement that is frequently encountered in discos when DJs and live bands appear in alternation and both use different mixing desks in conjunction with the house system. The advantages are readily apparent. For one thing, the DJ and his mixing desk are no longer dependent on the main desk. For another, loss of sound quality due to feeding the signal from one mixing desk into the other is avoided. As detailed below, the PRM-SIGMA 4.2 is also equipped with a few additional useful functions that you have surely always missed in "normal" line mixing desks.
Two stereo outputs are available. Besides the balanced professional XLR inputs, Channel A is also equipped with balanced jack inputs; if mono jack plugs (TS plugs) are used, the input automatically becomes unbalanced. Additionally, there are two cinch (RCA) inputs on the front. By virtue of the use of high-quality stereo ground-loop isolators, the inputs are always galvanically isolated: ground loops are ruled out. The levels are individually adjustable L/R. A switch with an LED indicator makes it possible to mute the channel. Using a monitor switch, it is possible to monitor the channel. Channel B is identically equipped, with the exception that only XLR inputs are available here. The maximum channel amplification is 30 dB. This makes it possible to give more than enough boost even to weak mixing desk output signals. The output section contains a five element LED display for L/R each, a headphone amplifier with volume control and two unbalanced cinch (RCA) outputs that permit recording of the sum signal. The master outputs are transformer-balanced XLR sockets. The nominal output level can be toggled between +6 dBu and –20 dBu. Except for the recording outputs, all inputs and outputs are equipped with ground-lift switches. Additionally, it is possible to isolate the case from the electronics ground.
In the installation sector, classic XLR-plug connectors are frequently impractical because for one thing they have to be soldered on site and for another they also require substantial space in the depth dimension. Thus the connectors know in technical jargon as Phoenix clamps are encountered much more often. The connection is pluggable on the one hand and the connections are screwed and not soldered. With the PRM-PHOENIX, Palmer is providing a 19” 1U unit that is equipped with various high-quality transformers and solves ground loops and signal splitting problems.
LINE-ISOLATING: A maximum of eight channels can be implemented. The transformers are medium impedance types with 10 kΩ impedance for inputs or 600 Ω types for outputs. A 4/4 implementation is also possible.
LINE-SPLIT: Up to four channels can be implemented with the following features: Input, parallel output (THRU), and two transformer balanced and galvanically isolated outputs.
MIC SPLIT: same features as LINE SPLIT, but transformers optimized for MIC level and impedance. Moreover, a resistance matrix for signal decoupling is included.
Housing 19”, 1U, depth 240 mm including tension relief clamp for cables.
A distribution amplifier is used to distribute a signal source to multiple outputs. The PRM-Delta 8.2 is a two-channel (stereo) distribution amplifier and can distribute two different sources to four outputs each. A mono switch, however, also makes it possible to mix two sources with one another and then distribute the sum signal to eight outputs. The PRM-Delta is designed to be extremely flexible. The unit is capable of processing all signals from microphone level up to a professional line level of +20 dBu. Besides toggling between microphone and line levels, the levels at both inputs and outputs can be adjusted individually and continuously using potentiometers. A level meter with 5 LEDs per channel provides a reliable means of visual monitoring.
When distributing signals, the devices are frequently located in different rooms and thus they are usually also powered by different power supply systems. This provokes ground loops and the annoying buzzing sound associated with them. This will not happen with a PRM-Delta 8.2; the line inputs and all outputs are balanced by high-quality transformers and thus galvanically isolated. Additionally, it is possible to isolate the case from the electronics ground.
audio isolating transformer
The PLI-DIN audio isolating transformers were developed with the special requirements of the installation market in mind. Two high-quality transformers are housed in a standard 70 mm top hat rail case. The connections are made using so-called Phoenix clamps.
There are two different versions of the PLI-DIN: LO-Z with a nominal impedance of 600 Ω : 600 Ω is optimized for balancing and galvanic isolation of outputs, while HI-Z with 10 kΩ : 10 kΩ is suitable for adapting line inputs.
