Latest Travel Alert
Anyone considering travel should be aware that restrictions are subject to change at short notice, and all passengers should undertake proper research and carefully consider the necessity of their travel at this time. Citizens should be aware of the possible limitations to any consular assistance that could be provided. It is also important to check with your travel insurance provider on coverage before travel.

If considering travelling abroad, you are advised to monitor the official advice and information provided by the authorities at your destination. Information about entry restrictions applied by other countries is available below. Additional restrictions may be imposed by the country of your destination, including during your visit.

There is a high threat of terrorism across the East Africa region. Ugandan authorities have issued a number of alerts warning of a heightened risk of terrorism and Uganda has experienced a number of bomb blasts in 2021. Terror attacks can be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers. Large crowds of people and public places may also be targets.

Travel to Uganda
Please note that COVID-19-related entry requirements may change without warning.

Entebbe International Airport has reopened to commercial travel since 1 October 2020, with all passengers required to present a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than 72 hours before boarding the aircraft to Uganda. Those without a valid test result will be denied entry. When leaving, passengers are also required to present a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of departure from Uganda. Passengers travelling on flights during curfew hours will be permitted to travel to the airport on presentation of a valid ticket.

As of 27 October 2021, all passengers arriving at Entebbe will additionally be subject to a PCR test on arrival, regardless of vaccination status (except children under 6 and airline crew). Tests cost US$30 and will be conducted at the airport, and passengers are permitted to travel onwards to wait for their results at their home or hotel. Travellers should register and pre-pay on Uganda’s online registration system before departing, as they may be refused boarding without a receipt. Those who test positive may be transferred to a public or private hospital, or permitted to isolate at a designated hotel if they have mild or no symptoms.

There are currently no mandatory quarantine requirements in place in Uganda for new arrivals. Further information and updates can be found on the website of Uganda’s Ministry of Health.

Public Health Measures upon arrival in Uganda
Additional lockdown measures were introduced in Uganda on 18 June. As of 30 July, a curfew from 19:00 to 05:30 remains in place. Passengers taking a flight during curfew hours will be permitted to proceed to the airport on presentation of a valid ticket. Public transport has reopened at 50% capacity, and boda bodas (motorbike taxis) are permitted to carry one passenger up to 18:00.

General Travel Advice
You are advised that political demonstrations in Uganda can take a violent turn without warning. You should avoid all political gatherings including demonstrations and rallies, remain vigilant at all times, and follow local media for updates.

Avoid demonstrations and public gatherings, which can sometimes turn confrontational and stay away from military sites – taking photos of, or near, military or security installations, and some public buildings, may be prohibited.
