Innov-X's new handheld XRF will also capture a digital picture AND test results for RoHS compliance documentation

Innov-X's new handheld XRF will also capture a digital picture AND test results for RoHS compliance documentation

Woburn, MA, July 27, 2007--- Innov-X will be introducing its new Handheld XRF Analyzer with Laser Camera System at NEPCON-South China*, which is guaranteed to make a visit to Innov-X’s Booth 1B72 worthwhile. Learn about this product and the other XRF products and techniques on how to protect your company from RoHS non-compliance. You can learn what you should be doing in regard to “due diligence” for China RoHS compliance. The exhibits are also located with the SMTA China South Technical Conference that is focusing on the challenges of quality and manufacturing in Pb-free environment.

Portable XRF in many cases, provides a simple, fast, non-destructive screening method to confirm suppliers’ certifications and mitigate risk. Innov-X Systems offers the most complete range of handheld to benchtop XRF instruments.

NEW Laser-Focus Camera System Handheld XRF for revolutionary small-spot testing which displays the image and sample target on the color PDA screen in real-time. This handheld XRF will also capture a digital picture AND test results for RoHS compliance documentation – all in the world’s most portable handheld XRF Analyzer. It is ideal for evaluating non-homogeneous parts such as PCB’s where the beam can be focused (down to 3mm diameter) on a small component, solder joint, lead or terminal. You can switch from collimated pinpoint to full-field analysis with the touch of a button. Snapshot images of samples analyzed are saved as part of your test records. The analyzer can measure up to 25 elements in a single test with pinpoint precision.

NEW X-50 Mobile XRF high-powered, portable XRF: the ultimate benchtop XRF featuring 10x or more the power of handhelds now in a mobile package. Test Cd down to 1 ppm in many sample types, 10 ppm in alloys. This is ideal for RoHS Packaging Directive which requires sum of Cd, Hg, Pb, Cr of less than 100 ppm.

NEW Inspector Series™ XRF is ideal for testing Pb content in solder and parts, with the simplest configuration of any handheld XRF. This testing is vital to avoid tin whiskering resulting from using the wrong solder materials

Innov-X Systems X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analyzers are easy-to-use and effective screening tools that can go virtually anywhere. They can alert users to banned metals, using pass or fail criteria. They will document total Cr, Br, Pb, Hg, and Cd. In just seconds, prohibited materials can be identified and quantified. The analyzers can measure up to 25 elements in a single test with pinpoint precision. They provide screening solutions for RoHS testing of electronics in just seconds.

Innov-X patent pending RoHS Engine method and RoHS-Star™ software makes screening and quantitative analysis fast, reliable, and easy to use. They automatically determine if a sample is homogenous or non-homogenous, polymer or alloy, and optimizes the analyzer for best precision and detection limits. No user input is required – thus virtually eliminating the possibility of user errors.

Innov-X’s breakthrough Handheld XRF design uses an x-ray tube in a compact unit. The Ultimate in Customer Choice: The Classic Removable PDA model or the Ultra-Rugged Weatherproof model with totally sealed internal electronics. Both models offer the signature Innov-X Superior Ergonomic design for performance, ruggedness, portability and versatility required for tough field applications.

• Quickly and easily screen all RoHS metals: Cr, Br, Pb, Hg and Cd
• The lightest weight, smallest, and best-balanced handheld XRF.
• Bright, color display that is easy to read in any lighting conditions - even direct sunlight.
• Touch trigger. No uncomfortable triggers to squeeze and hold. Comfortable “deadman” trigger also.
• Dual display: Angled front display plus rear display for easy viewing of test results.
• Reduce regulatory baggage – no wipe tests, minimal travel restrictions, easy to transport.
• Eliminates the liability of isotope control, improper use, theft and disposal.

Take small-spot XRF analysis to a higher level with the Hawk-i Series™ Micro X-ray Fluorescence Bench-top Analyzer that delivers fast and precise identification and elemental analysis from Chlorine to Uranium (Cl to U). Using a collimated beam of 13mm to 0.2 mm diameter, with laser beam focusing, the Hawk-i ™ system is ideal for testing small or non-homogeneous samples. Applications include analysis of RoHS compliance for electronics, PCB and component studies. The Hawk-I™ can perform fully standard-less quantitative analysis with excellent statistical accuracy. The movable X-Y stage affords precise measurements across samples. The sensitive color CCD camera enables digital snapshots with magnification of up to 68x, and combined with the laser spot tool, it enables digital pictures to be conveniently analyzed and stored. The Hawk-I™ includes a large testing chamber, X-ray tube source and Si PiN-Diode detector interfaced to a PC.

High-reliability, long-life materials for critical components in military, aerospace, certain medical devices and heavy equipment applications still requires the use of lead (Pb) in solders and finishes, as exempt from RoHS compliance. Leaded vs non-lead part mix-ups are possible, but Innov-X Systems’ handheld XRF will quickly identify lead content in critical components without harming parts.

New RoHS Rules --On March 1st, the China RoHS regulations came into play, and while they look similar they’re markedly different than the EU’s legislation. There are other countries such as Korea and Japan with pending RoHS laws, and in the U.S., starting with California. Clearly, the environmental compliance picture has changed markedly.

About Innov-X Systems

Innov-X Systems is a vital force in the x-ray fluorescence (XRF) industry. Their systems perform fast, accurate chemical analysis in seconds to identify, differentiate and quantify most materials by elemental composition. Founded in 2001, they pioneered handheld XRF instrumentation using a miniature x-ray tube rather than radioactive isotopes. Innov-X has rapidly expanded into many other XRF areas. These include the new SEA-Mate™ System for marine on-board fluids analysis; MobiLab X-50, a portable XRF that in comparison to handheld units, delivers higher power and superior performance throughout the periodic table. Innov-X has also taken a leading position in custom XRF and online/automated XRF instrumentation.

With R&D and manufacturing facilities in the U.S., Innov-X has offices in Europe (the Netherlands), and Asia (Hong Kong). They maintain sales and service alliances in Canada, the Middle East, Latin America and worldwide. Service, installation and training is available in over 100 countries.
