The Developing the Young Workforce team in Dundee and Angus is at the heart of facilitating meaningful partnerships between education and business.

As the region enters into post-covid recovery and educational reform takes shape, these links provide a platform to ensure our young people are equipped with the skills and experience to enable our local economy to thrive.

Monica Young has recently competed her first month in post as DYW Manager and with a background in business, she also brings a wealth of experience in working collaboratively with education and industry. Previously part of a team who won Scotland’s Most Enterprising School in 2020 as well as 100% of pupils entering a positive destination for the last 2 years, Monica is very keen to support schools, colleges and businesses across Dundee and Angus to work more closely together.

“The world of work and the employment landscape in general has changed significantly over the last couple of years. Developing innovative ways for schools and businesses to exchange knowledge and experience is central to ensuring we have the skilled future workforce that Scotland needs.”

“By engaging with young people in various levels of education, businesses have the opportunity to influence the curriculum, create career pathways and fully prepare young people for their next steps into employment. The recent recruitment crisis across many sectors has shown us that working in this way to futureproof the employment pipeline is more important than ever.”

The DYW Team is currently signing up businesses across the region to the Young Person’s Guarantee. Launched last year by Scottish Government, this is a commitment to provide every young person in Scotland with employment, training or volunteering and work-based learning opportunities while still at school or college. Businesses can sign up at various levels and the DYW Team in Dundee and Angus are here to help them come on board.

Alison Henderson, Chair of the Employer-led Regional DYW Board said: “We’re delighted to welcome Monica to join the team who already have so many amazing employer & school/college partnerships in place.

Coming out of the Covid pandemic, it is more vital than ever that employers can access the local talent that is needed to drive business resilience and growth as the economy recovers.

In addition we know that many young people have paused their career ambitions, invested in their learning journey and are ready to step into new roles.

It’s hugely important to have a strong team who understand both the challenges of employers and are close to young people making significant career choices.

I’m proud to support the whole team and know our Board and regional partners feel the same. 2022 will be a critical time for businesses and young people – never has there been a more pivotal moment for us all.

I’d encourage every employer to sign up for the Young Person’s Guarantee and tell your future workforce how important you feel about investing in your people.”
