Press release from: fluid Operations

Walldorf, Germany – fluid Operations substantially expands its solution portfolio in the area of semantic cloud and data management solutions in Optique, a large-scale European project focusing on the comprehensive and timely end-user access to very large data sets. The fluidOps Information Workbench™ was chosen as the integration platform for Optique. Within the project, innovative results from leading European universities will be integrated in order to solve real-world Big Data challenges at Statoil and Siemens. The Optique platform will be made commercially available exclusively by fluid Operations.

The Optique consortium consists of ten partners from Norway, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Greece. It includes highly committed industry stakeholders, leading researchers, experienced system integrators, support and training experts as well as IT consultants and vendors.

Paradigm Shift for Data Access
Scalable end-user access to Big Data is critical for effective data analysis and value creation. Basing on the Information Workbench, the Optique platform will bring about a paradigm shift for data access by
• providing a semantic end-to-end connection between users and data sources
• enabling users to rapidly formulate intuitive queries
• seamlessly integrating data spread across multiple distributed data sources, including streaming sources
• exploiting elastic cloud resources to achieve extreme scalability which goes far beyond traditional relational databases
• reducing the turnaround time for information requests to minutes rather than days

Use Cases Exemplifying Real-World Big Data Challenges
The development of the Optique platform will be based on and continuously evaluated against the requirements of complex real-world challenges, with comprehensive use cases by Siemens and Statoil in the energy and oil&gas domains enabling access to terabyte scale data sets. The experience gathered from the use case deployments will ensure the development of a generic solution to address the Big Data challenges faced by the European industry.
