The cards show how to teach children to swim.

The cards show how to teach children to swim.

Laminated cards, exercise books, course packs: Everything for swimming lessons at school or in the club.

Especially teachers at primary schools know the problem: They are supposed to teach children how to swim – but the right tools are missing. Neither in their studies nor at school were they prepared in detail for swimming lessons. So what can they do? The digital-swim-coach portal offers help. There, teachers as well as swimming coaches in clubs can find everything they need to conduct perfect swimming lessons.

The course material focuses on cards with exercises that – laminated or online on the tablet – can be taken to the swimming hall as a tool when teaching children to swim. "It is often noisy in the swimming hall. That's why people often use gestures to communicate," says swimming expert Veronika Aretz, who runs the digital- swim-coach portal. "If I want the children to swim crawl legs, I indicate this by moving my arms and hands up and down. But demonstrating the breaststroke from the edge of the pool is already more difficult for the teacher. Often one also loses a lot of time with explanations while the children are freezing in the water." These and other typical problems in swimming lessons are solved with the course material.

Teachers who teach children to swim can choose from various aids here (e.g. course packages for beginners or advanced swimmers) or order programmes for accompanying gymnastic exercises that support learning to swim. More than 1300 illustrations have been integrated on approximately 850 cards. From getting used to the water to diving to the three swimming styles breaststroke, crawl and backstroke, everything is explained in a child-friendly way and each is illustrated with at least one picture in an easy-to-understand way. In addition, teachers will find information on the advantages and disadvantages of each exercise. And there are tips and variations on alternative exercises: From the simplest playful exercise to the perfect swimming technique.

Topics of the materials for swimming lessons are:
- Adjusting to the Water
- Underwater Work
- Breaststroke, Crawl and Backstroke up to the whole position
- Movement sequence of the three styles
- Exercises with the pool noodle
- Head dive and other jumping ideas
- Diving
- Games
- Troubleshooting
- Bathing Rules
- Behaviour during the competition
- Theory with many tips

"We have made a point of compiling all the exercises with a team of trainers, teachers and other specialist staff, illustrating them and putting them into a complete programme," Veronika Aretz describes her offer. "For me, it is important that as many people as possible know how to swim. In schools, teachers are often overwhelmed because the groups are far too big and the water time is too short. I want to give them something that works, which I have tested and put together myself over many years."

digital-swim-coach was launched to give a low-cost digital coaching tool with more than workouts, explanations and helps for swimming lessons. The exercises were designed by coaches and teachers who are involved in the swimming education of children and adults on an almost daily basis and want to support them in achieving their swimming goals. The exercises are aimed at swimmers of all levels – whether for learning the first strokes, improving their position in breaststroke, crawl or backstroke or training for competitions. The digital-swim-coach team is passionate about learning to swim in and around water, especially to give teachers and coaches a basis for turning non-swimmers into little water rats in no time.
