Petaluma City Council Unanimously Decides to Purchase 27 QuickHaven Shelters

Petaluma, CA. QuickHaven is proud to announce that on Monday, September 20, 2021, the Petaluma City Council unanimously approved the purchase of 27 of its transitional shelters. CEO Dan Bodner states “This is big news. Our shelters clearly impressed the City as the best option. We received wide and enthusiastic praise from the City’s staff, elected officials, and also officials from neighboring cities who toured our model shelter. After all the hard work of getting our shelters to market, it's a really gratifying outcome.”

This unanimous approval to purchase QuickHaven’s shelters is a step toward curbing homelessness in the area. The Press Democrat features an article on this purchase and shared that the city council is allocating $338,000 toward the purchase of the shelters, with money coming from the $1.7 million in federal coronavirus relief dollars that Petaluma set aside last month for housing solutions. The full scope of the project is to build a site in the community that will be ready this winter and will include mobile showers, toilets, mental and behavioral health services, and QuickHaven’s shelters.

At the beginning of September, the city of Petaluma put out a request for proposals for shelters for this project and QuickHaven demonstrated its shelter twice throughout the selection process. QuickHaven was chosen out of three other organizations that submitted proposals. City officials reported that the energy-efficient design and the environmentally friendly materials of the product are what made it the obvious choice. The Petaluma City Council also chose QuickHaven’s shelters because they are compliant with Petaluma design standards. Furthermore, Petaluma indicated that there was mission alignment with QuickHaven in their aim to provide a sense of home and community with the project.

The housing units are 72 square feet, set up quickly, and require minimal site preparation. The insulation they provide helps with climate control and soundproofing. As the city council noted, their design is energy-efficient, keeping annual maintenance and operational costs low. As the CEO, Dan, stated “This first sale is a huge accomplishment that QuickHaven takes great pride in and this opportunity allows us to take a big step toward our goal of healing communities and populations suffering from homelessness.”
