Taking Back The D - Detroit’s Urban Housing Crisis
Detroit, Mi. - Before hitting the polls, there is a severe matter Detroiters must address “The Elephant in the Room.” There are still tens of thousands of Native African Americans, Detroit senior citizens, and former proud homeowners now displaced due to the illegal and unconstitutional property tax foreclosures. This grave injustice took place over the past eight years under Mike Duggan’s Administration. These native residents of Detroit are our mothers, fathers, senior citizens, veterans, and lower-income wage earners. To our detriment, there is still no clear plan announced for restoration. Let’s keep in mind, these are the citizens the city government have all vowed to protect, yet we are allowing them to continue in disparity. As a reminder, reports reflect 82.7% of Detroit’s population as Native African Americans, making them the largest holding city in the nation. Ironically, they generate less than 10% of Detroit’s business revenue in comparison to other nationalities.
The best way to get in front of these issues would suggest ushering Anthony Adams in as the next Mayor of Detroit. Detroiters need a new administration with a fresh approach and a strong desire to help the community at large. Adams have shared plans of a strategic redevelopment approach that allocates some U.S. reserve funds designed to restore the illegal and unconstitutional property tax foreclosures initiated through the Detroit Land Bank, giving those hit hardest priority and preference. Detroit mayoral candidate Anthony Adams plan to implement a block-by-block approach to avoid any scattering and distinctly develop adjacent lots. Using this approach would not amount to large-scaling or any distinguished redevelopment and would include other citizens also placed at a disadvantage.
Mike Duggan’s Administration authorized the illegal garnishment on tens of thousands of homeowners who met standards of a non-taxation based on the urban crisis guidelines for lower-income residents. By definition, these residents have a waiver from paying property taxes. As it stands, Duggan has done nothing to rectify this, nor has he made any efforts to address Detroit citizens on the severity of a resolution to this troubling matter. It suggests he has no intent to reform. Wayne county have neatly tucked this the valuable information into their website along with the clutter of other information within the system, but the city of Detroit is responsible to the residents to inform its consumers about the opportunities for their own citizens. The path of information goes like this: Lansing tells the county about the constitutionality of ordinances imposed on the county, the county relays the information to the city, and the city informs its residents of changes within the county infrastructures. The city clearly neglected to inform its citizens of their options offered through the Wayne County Treasury:

Detroit residents cannot allow this administration another term in office. The foreclosed properties were purchased by investors worldwide and generated over
$300 Million in profits to Wayne County and the City of Detroit, leaving those former homeowners of Detroit as renters to foreign investors.
Detroit city elected officials have failed the citizens of Detroit! Demands by The Coalition for Property Tax Justice, also referenced as #BlackHomesMatter have gone ignored. It is an evident outrage of injustice targeted towards the Native African American communities of Detroit also.

As the next Mayor, candidate Anthony Adams will outline a plan to restore homeownership using a strategized redevelopment program approach. He indicated that he refuse to stand by and allow Detroit citizens to be victimized by having their equity extorted in this urban crisis. Detroiters deserve better!
