DEESME commits with six ‘sister-projects’ for improving energy efficiency in SMEs at EUSEW event

19/10/2021 - Towards a decarbonized Europe: Increasing energy efficiency in SMEs for a clean energy transition - after the completion of its first year the DEESME project has joined forces with six related Horizon 2020 projects (INNOVEAS, E2DRIVER, SMEmPOWER, SPEEDIER, ICCEE and Triple-A) showcasing its results at an online event session in the context of EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW).

The joint cooperation of DEESME and its sister-projects within the EUSEW event 2021 lead to a successful interactive event, with high level panel discussions on guidelines and good practices needed to implement energy efficiency solutions and facilitate the energy transition for companies and SMEs.

SMEs have less workforce, technical and financial capacity to perform energy audits but also a high untapped energy saving potential which can be unlocked by overcoming structural, market and financial barriers. The event aimed at raise awarenees about the multiple (energy and non-energy) benefits deriving their energy efficiency.

The event also aimed at sharing recommendations and best practices from national schemes, EU projects and other initiatives with national authorities providing industry stakeholders, policy makers, financial institutions, ESCOs, academia/research, energy professionals and other attendees with insights about energy audits and the implantation of energyefficient and cost-effective measures. In order to guide and assist SMEs throughout the energy transition, DEESME, E2DRIVER, INNOVEAS, SMEmPOWER, SPEEDIER, ICCEE and Triple-A H2020 projects presented their best practices, policy recommendations and key results at the EU Sustainable Energy Week Event (EUSEW 2021), in a session entitled "Towards a decarbonised Europe: Increasing energy efficiency in SMEs for clean energy transition".

Fruitful discussions among the speakers and attendees lead to the conclusion that an effective strategy is needed for supporting SMEs to overcome several barriers towards energy efficiency and increase their reputation of innovative and green companies.

DEESME - DEVELOPING NATIONAL SCHEMES FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN SMES

About the EU Sustainable Energy Week:
The EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) was launched in 2006 by the European Commission. It is a month-long series of activities to build a secure energy future for Europe. It brings together public authorities, private companies, NGOs and consumers to promote initiatives to save energy and move towards renewables for clean, secure and efficient power.

About DEESME: The DEESME project aims, among others, to enable the National Authorities (NAs) of selected Member States (MS) of the European Union or their national implementing bodies (IBs) to enhance the uptake and implementation of energy audits and/or management systems within companies according to Article 8 of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED). For this purpose, it aims to support ten NAs to overcome existing challenges in the implementation of their national transposition.
