Qatar Project Management partners for the 4th Annual Middle East DC (District Cooling) Summit – 2012
The 2022 World Cup has indeed put Qatar on the world development map and will serve as a key milestone in its path to realizing The National Vision - Qatar 2030. Salah Nezar, Sustainability Director of Qatar Project Management (QPM), said "Opportunities for solar cooling in Qatar are huge due to the fact the 2022 World Cup needs to be a carbon neutral tournament . Furthermore, a number of QPM clients are asking for innovative solutions to cool outdoor seating area within Katara (cultural village) and Souk Wakef to keep the business running during the hot season. A number of hotels have expressed the intention to spend more on open air cooling solution for their cafeterias."Nezar emphasized, "Qatar Construction Specifications did introduce a new section (7th) for sustainable way of delivering construction and it’s mainly related to energy conservation”. And ASHGAL (public work authority in Qatar) issued recently detailed drawing about typical service corridor and it includes provisions for chilled water piping from district cooling. This is considered a step forward toward the recognition of the district cooling as a viable alternative. The District Cooling (DC) market penetration in Qatar is around 5% only and a serious effort is needed to increase this number."
Though the penetration numbers are low, the awareness of District Cooling has grown steadily in the Middle East thereby creating demand and opening up the market to new players that provide efficient and sustainable technologies. There is an optimistic future of the DC market in the Middle East and Qatar is leading the way.
QPM's participation at the 4th Annual Middle East DC (District Cooling) Summit 2012 as Project Management Partner will shed light on sustainable cooling and DC penetration. QPM CEO Mr Fahad Rashid Mohamed Ajlan Al-Kaabi will join Saleh Nazer who optimistically expressed 'Expectations from the summit see some investors interested in investing money in clean tech cooling solutions that tremendously reduces energy consumption, saves natural resources and protects the environment.' The summit commences on Sunday, 25th November, 2012 at the Grand Hyatt Doha and over 35 solution providers have signed up to introduce their technologies to an expected 300 attendees across 3 days.
