Telling Black Stories in White Spaces - an Online Course is Launching Pre-sales
From Social Darwinism to the American Eugenics Movement to the resistance to civil rights that continues to this day, Black stories have been rewritten, watered down, and dismissed. It has taken a toll on Black communities across North America and created feelings of Imposter Syndrome, driven people to code switch, all to make sure that a seat at the table is reserved for them.In this new era, Black people in the United States are being unapologetic about telling their stories and building their own tables when they are shut out of the room. Many white allies have learned how their privilege has benefited their career paths, their families, and their communities. Is that where it ends? Umoja Digital does not believe so, and this digital locker of Black stories is launching its first course to walk you through the history of what led to our two Americas.
Telling Black Stories in White Spaces is a deep-dive into how our culture became siloed and why Black stories are relegated to Black audiences while White stories feel no fear of rejection. This course will also teach Black storytellers how to curate more data and leverage it to find channels where their stories will have more of an impact. Lastly, the course will teach white allies how they can use their privilege to create more space for Black people to tell their own stories rather than telling their stories for them.
Pre-sales have begun for the rest of October and the full course, along with a suite of micro-courses will be available in November.
