CapTwin from Gleistein Ropes

Premium solutions for the yacht and super yacht market

Bremen, 7 November 2012

Gleistein Ropes presents a wide range of new and enhanced high-end rigging solutions when the international marine leisure industry converges on Amsterdam 13-15 November for METS (Marine Equipment Trade Show), which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2012. Destined to get the hearts of super yacht enthusiasts racing is CapTwin: a groundbreaking customised solution from Gleistein boasting extreme strength with minimal diameters that is specially constructed and fully attuned for use with captive winches. Further key highlights awaiting visitors to the Gleistein stand will include AT Twin, designed for gennaker furling systems, which has been developed to perfection since its attention-grabbing debut as a prototype at last year’s fair. METS 2012 is open exclusively for trade visitors and runs 13-15 November in Amsterdam. The Gleistein Ropes booth is located in Hall 1, Stand 226.

Marine leisure is a serious business – especially so in the premium market segment of yachts and super yachts. Many and varied specialised solutions are required to meet very specific needs to satisfy the exacting demands of the discerning customers. To achieve and maintain a position at the pinnacle of this sector requires extensive know-how and expertise, a proven record of reliability, and an innovative force supported by state-of-the-art R&D capabilities. At this year’s METS, Gleistein Ropes lays down the line – presenting its latest premium solutions while also giving trade fair visitors an insight into future innovations on the horizon:

Aye aye CapTwin! The premium choice for captive winches
As super yacht sizes grow, so too does the deployment of captive winches. Simultaneously, the demands placed on running rigging are also increased – while the size of such systems must remain as small as possible. CapTwin is a premium solution for this challenge. It delivers maximum strength with a minimal diameter. The rope cover envelopes the strength-optimised core extremely tightly to all but eliminate any core-cover slip. Gleistein manufactures CapTwin individually according to specific customer requirements, ensuring a perfectly attuned system for premium applications.

AT Twin: ultimate solution for gennaker furling systems
Building on the prototype presented at METS 2011, this year Gleistein unveils the fully matured version of this wonder for gennaker furling systems. A 64-strand duplex cover braid made of multilayered stabilised high tenacity filament fibres envelops a 12-strand Vectran core. Torsional forces are transferred over extended lengths, it remains flexible and it is capable of bearing high loads – namely for gennaker sails with an area of up to 250m2 with the 16mm line!

Higher performance across the board: with Dyneema® SK78
Farewell SK75, hello SK78! Gleistein Ropes is updating its complete range of lines previously manufactured with SK75 fibres. As of immediately, all such ropes will be crafted with the higher performance Dyneema® SK78 fibre – which offers the same strength with less creep. Our experts at METS can explain the advantages this change delivers in detail.

DM20: it won’t give you the creeps!
Gleistein is in the inner circle of a select group of premium manufacturers chosen by DSM Dyneema to develop and test ropes using a revolutionary new synthetic fibre from Dyneema® named DM20. The new fibre already shows very promising potential to eliminate creep! And that means ropes made using DM20 will also be suitable for static deployment. Find out more at METS!

New facility for testing rope endurance and behaviour under bending and alternating loads
Innovative quality and safety are two of the leading lights relentlessly pursued by Gleistein. The company goes to great lengths to provide a credible and verifiable basis to substantiate its ambitious goals. Following the installation of the 300 ton tensile testing machine last year in Gleistein’s on-site rope testing lab, a new state-of-the-art testing facility is currently being added to the setup to test the flexural strength of ropes on rolls and under alternating loads. The custom-built device enables duty cycles under diverse conditions to be replicated, which allows the Gleistein R&D department to ascertain optimal rope construction types and hardware combinations for virtually all deployment modes. The Gleistein team at METS will be thrilled to explain in greater detail how the new testing facility will enhance the development of ropes optimised for specific needs.

METS 2012 runs 13-15 November in Amsterdam. Trade visitors will find the Gleistein booth in Hall 1, Stand 226.
