Philadelphia University and Tenable join hands to offer India’s first Certificate Program in Instructional Design in E-Learning

India, Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad, July 17 - India is the major player in the global Knowledge and E-Learning Industry thanks to its inherent advantages. Many global majors outsource e learning from India. Currently Indian offshoring market for e-Learning is estimated to be US $ 500 million, where as the global market size is Us $ 150 billion. Due to its inherent strengths it can grow exponentially. But, there is an acute shortage of trained Instructional Designers. We need thousands of Instructional Designers, if our share in Off-shore e-learning business to grow from current level of US $ 500 million. And you don’t find any credible institutions, (except one offering as an optional to other mainstream courses) offering courses in Instructional Technology or Instructional Design in India said Mr. C.V. In this light of background TENABLE, Technology Enabled Learning Solutions Pvt. Ltd, a Hyderabad based Integrated e-Learning solutions provider entered into an MoU with Philadelphia University to set up state of the art training facilities for manpower required for the e-Learning industry. Philadelphia University is one of the leading Universities in the world offering masters in Instructional Designing and Instructional Technology disclosed Mr. C.V. Chandra Shekhar, CEO of Tenable addressing a joint press conference in Hyderabad along with subject expert, international authority, columnist and author Dr. Timothy C. McGee, who is a Director of School of Design and Media, Philadelphia University. USA

Towards this direction a Certificate Program in Instructional Design in e-Learning is announced nationally here in Hyderabad today. This program is offered for the first time in India and is not available anywhere. This 12 week virtual training program is the first ever exhaustive program in Instructional Design made available. This is just a pilot program that will only accommodate 25 students from all over India. The expert faculty from Philadelphia University will conduct the program. Once if proved successful, this course will be offered regularly three times in a year. This International Certificate program is offered with 100% placement. The course will begin from September 17, 2007.

Globally including in India web-based corporate learning is in explosive growth phase, measuring $ 30 billion currently and expected to grow over 30%. Even the global internet usage which currently stands at 700 million is likely to go up by 25 per cent. Companies already in India spend about Rs 3000 crore per annum on IT training, which is also expected to grow phenomenally in near future. E-learning adoption in primary, secondary and higher education is increasingly becoming visible. School and students are discovering the benefits of e-Learning. The excellent solution to the current shortage of teachers because of which schools getting closed in the state of Andhra Pradesh is e-Learning. All these augur good for e-Learning said Mr. C.V. Chandra Shekhar. It is estimated that about $ 2000 billion is spent globally by corporate training, primary, secondary and higher education all over the world. Just the value of content development alone for e-Learning is huge at $ 100 billion globally. Due to these and many more reasons the trained Instructional Designers will have bright future, he said.

E-Learning is the marriage of technology and education. The role of Instructional Designers is vital for e-learning module to be effective. Anybody and everybody in any age group can learn from Gardening to Rocket Science by way of e-Learning. But, the shortage of well trained Instructional Designers is hampering its growth. India today boasts of about 2000 untrained instructional designers, while there is a demand for about 15000 professionals. A good instructional designer can earn Rs 1.8 lakh per annum for an entry level job and with experience he can earn upto Rs 12 lakh per annum.

With e-learning increasingly becoming an accepted mode of learning worldwide. Almost anything can be taught to anybody. Indian IT companies are also tapping into the enormous business potential it offers. “Through these organizations are supplying customized e-learning products to overseas markets, creating a demand for a new breed of professionals in instructional designing”. This is the first ever tie-up by Philadelphia University with any other company anywhere in the world to offer Instructional Designing, informed Dr. Timothy C. McGee.
