Press release from: SYSGO

Mainz, October 31, 2012
SYSGO announced today the availability of its SSV (Safe & Secure Virtualization) RTOS PikeOS on Xilinx®’s Zynq™-7000 All Programmable SoC. SYSGO is a leading supplier of software solutions for the world’s most demanding safety and security embedded applications. Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoCs from Xilinx are the first tightly integrated hardware, software and I/O programmable devices in the industry. A demonstration of PikeOS capabilities on the Zynq-7000 device is available at ARM TechCon conference in Santa Clara at Xilinx booth 515.

PikeOS runs on Xilinx’s Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC
Hypervisor-based virtualization as provided by new generation RTOS PikeOS is a key element of the embedded safety and security picture across many of Xilinx’ target markets. Such a solution is flexible, and enables scaling of security across multiple applications and operating system instances. Together with SYSGO, Xilinx is already engaging with customers and prospects in the industrial, avionics, automotive and security markets.

SYSGO and Xilinx have been collaborating to bring embedded virtualization technology PikeOS to the Zynq-7000 family. PikeOS is a new type of RTOS that enables multiple operating system interfaces, called Personalities, to work safely and securely on separate sets of resources within a single machine. PikeOS Native, POSIX and Linux Personalities are already available for the Zynq-7000 devices. AMP and SMP supports are provided by PikeOS to take full advantage of the ARM® dual-core Cortex A9–MPcore architecture of the Zynq-7000 platform. Additional PikeOS personalities that offer market-specific support and further leverage Zynq-7000 AP SoC hardware are planned for the future.

“SYSGO’s long history of serving customers within the automotive, A&D, and ISM segments and the availability of SYSGO’s PikeOS for Xilinx Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC provides developers with yet another essential element that helps them to meet the challenges of safe and secure systems,” said Mark Jensen, director, platform design methodologies marketing at Xilinx.

With PikeOS, SYSGO is addressing a new generation of embedded safety, security and reliability requirements across a range of markets. Compared to a conventional RTOS, the dynamic re-allocation of computing time enabled by PikeOS allows the best possible usage of CPU resources. SYSGO works closely with Xilinx to offer this solution to its licensees, who will benefit from the clean, flexible architecture and unique features of PikeOS.

“Xilinx is addressing with their Zynq-7000 AP SoC offering the same market segments we do. In addition to the combination of performance, flexibility, scalability, power, cost and features they offer to their customers, we are happy to provide the highest levels of safety and security for their application thanks to our certified product PikeOS,“ said Jacques Brygier, VP Marketing at SYSGO.

More on PikeOS
PikeOS is built upon the Safe and Secure Virtualization (SSV) technology that enables multiple operating system interfaces, called Personalities, to work safely and securely on separate sets of resources within a single machine. PikeOS has the largest range of supported Personalities of the market, including PikeOS Native, ARINC 653, Linux, POSIX, Certified POSIX, Android™, RTEMS, iTRON and many others (for example an AUTOSAR Personality is available through SYSGO partner OpenSynergy).

The PikeOS microkernel architecture allows it to be used in cost sensitive, resource constrained devices as well as large, complex systems. The simplicity and compactness of the PikeOS design results in real-time performance that competes head-to-head with conventional proprietary RTOS solutions. PikeOS supports single- and multi-core processor architectures. Support of multi-core offers a flexible approach to the user who can select an execution model ranging from a pure AMP (Asymmetric Multi Processing) to full SMP (Symmetric Multi Processing).

PikeOS is certifiable to safety standards like DO-178B/C, IEC 61508, EN 50128, IEC 62304 or ISO 26262, is MILS compliant, and is currently involved in various security standard Common Criteria EAL certification projects.

PikeOS includes CODEO, an Eclipse-based integrated development environment that provides guided configuration, remote debugging (often down to the hardware instruction level), target monitoring, remote application deployment, and timing analyses in addition to standard application development features such as compilers and assemblers.

PikeOS is used in many projects across different market segments. Major avionics equipments such as Airbus A350 Avionics Server Function Cabinet, A400M LoadMaster’s Control, railway projects such as the Korean Radio based Train Control System, and other projects in automotive, industrial, medical, and security areas take already advantage of PikeOS. Companies like Airbus, Samsung, Thales, Rockwell Collins, Zodiac Aerospace, just to name a few, are trusting SYSGO’s capacity to deliver certified and field-proven products.

SYSGO provides operating system products, middleware, and software services for the real-time and embedded market. A differentiating capability of SYSGO is the SSV (Safe and Secure Virtualization) platform PikeOS, a paravirtualization operating system that is built upon a small, fast, and certified microkernel. It supports the co-existence of independent operating system personalities on a single platform, including ELinOS, SYSGO’s embedded Linux distribution. SYSGO supports international customers with services for embedded Linux, real-time capabilities and certification for safety-critical applications. Markets include Aerospace & Defense, Industrial Automation, Automotive, Transportation and Network Infrastructure. Customers include Airbus, EADS, Thales, B. Braun, Raytheon, Samsung, Rheinmetall, Rockwell-Collins, Nokia Siemens Network, and Rohde & Schwarz. SYSGO has facilities in Germany, France, The Czech Republic and North America, and offers a global distribution and support network, including Europe and the Pacific Rim.
