In April 2021, Xilinx, Inc. and Mavenir announced that they are working together to bring a combined 4G/5G O-RAN massive MIMO (mMIMO) portfolio to market to support Open RAN deployments. The first mMIMO 64TRX joint solution is expected to be available in Q4 2021.
In March 2021, Intel Corporation, along with researchers from the University of Florida, University of Maryland, and Texas A&M, have joined the Structured Array Hardware for Automatically Realized Applications (SAHARA) initiative. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Intel, and the universities will work to automate the conversion process and add supply chain chip protections.
