Winemaker Plants Tree For Every Case of Wine Sold

Sigrid Salucop plants a tree every time her wine brand Basi del Diablo sells 12 bottles of wine, a move that satisfies the small company's corporate social responsibility and the winemaker's advocacy on sustainability. The young CEO has been doing this since 2013 and while "sales are low," according to a statement released by Basi del Diablo in early 2021, the wine brand has already planted over a hundred trees in the past few years.

"Our principle on sustainability is very simple. Everything that Basi del Diablo needs for its survival is directly anchored on the environment," Salucop says. She adds that planting trees is "the least that the brand can do".

The Basi del Diablo brand has six different types of wine and it includes those made from pure sugarcane, a local concoction made popular in the Philippines' Ilocano-speaking provinces, and traditional #grape#-based wines.
