Analytiqa: Logistics Bulletin: Friday 06th July

07-16-2007 09:14 PM CET | Logistics & Transport

Press release from: Analytiqa

This week's Logistics Bulletin reports on contract wins across a variety of industry sectors and customers, from Airbus, to Porsche and from Marks and Spencer, to Weetabix. Porsche has selected Schenker to supply its network of dealers in Russia. Schenker is ensuring that Porsche’s contractual partners in Russia are supplied just-in-time with original parts and fittings as well as Porsche accessories on demand. The project also includes the management of returns on warranty parts and motors.

Environmental news continues to dominate supply chain thinking in 2007, with developments around the globe. In Japan, Mazda is shifting some of its transport operations from road to rail and has designed new rail cargo containers to boost transport efficiency. In the UK, Christian Salvesen’s Temperature Controlled Business Unit (TCBU) has launched a series of trials into alternative fuels, aimed at reducing the Company’s carbon footprint, whilst UK retailer Sainsbury’s has launched an innovative scheme designed to generate renewable energy from its vehicle fleet.

Primary research with UK retailers by Analytiqa, released as a complimentary White Paper, identifies the environmental benefits and cost savings of a Port-based supply chain strategy and how this is already being adopted across the UK. Analytiqa's White Paper includes case studies of three organisations who have already implemented such a strategy - ASDA, BMB Group, Stiller Group. To request your complimentary copy of the White Paper, please send an email to enquiries@analytiqa.com with your request.

Rhenus acquires TMI

04 July 2007 - Rhenus has acquired Transport Management International Holding B.V. (TMI) as from 1 July 2007, subject to approval by the antitrust authorities. With its 35 branches and various companies (Road Air, Copex and Transmarcom), TMI is one of the leading logistics companies in The Netherlands and Belgium.

Dr. Hermann Niehues, CEO at Rhenus considers the acquisition of TMI as a perfect match for the range of services already provided by Rhenus. The acquisition plays an important part of a strategy to expand the group’s network.

As a result of the acquisition, annual sales at Rhenus will rise from €2.5 billion to some €3.0 billion, and the number of staff from 13,000 to 14,000. The Rhenus Group now has 230 business sites in Europe, providing an extensive logistics network, both for road and inland waterway traffic.

TMI complements the European network of Rhenus IHG in its Freight Logistics operations, particularly in the Benelux countries, and it will add more Contract Logistics facilities. In addition, the experienced management team at TMI will significantly accelerate the expansion of international air and sea freight business within the Rhenus Group.
