Cooperatives in the Philippines Get an Enhanced Digital Banking Experience with KAYA 2.0

Manilla, Philippines - The National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO) and the Philippine Federation of Credit Cooperatives (PFCCO) launched KAYA 2.0, an improved version of the KAYA Payment Platform the two federations are offering to coops, supported by the Association Of Asian Confederation Of Credit Unions (ACCU) and in partnership with Software Group (SoftwareGroup.com) - a global technology provider to financial organizations.

KAYA is a coop-owned, coop-led, and coop-governed payment platform, whose mission is to drive digital transformation and financial inclusion by enabling co-op members with accessible payment technology. A rich set of financial services are available via the KAYA app, which brings its users convenience of payments made and received, saving on cost and time, and safety in the context of the COVID quarantine.

Initially launched in 2017, the revamped KAYA app hosts a multitude of new features, which enable members to:

- Access the app from both iOS and Android devices
- Open a KAYA account with a quick self-registration procedure via mobile phone
- Link to existing coop savings account
- Login using registered mobile number
- Apply for a loan and facilitate loan collection from members
- Pay bills faster - to ECPay and coop billers
- Enable members for social security and Pag-IBIG
- Support members’ businesses by enabling them to be “member merchants”

Since its inception, the KAYA Payment Platform, which is powered by Software Group, has been adopted by more than 150 coops, established over 400 branches and 75 ATMs across the country and their network continues to grow.The technology enables them to expand the range of services available to their members, generate additional revenue and increase member share value.

Earlier this year, KAYA was recognized for its contribution towards WOCCU’s Challenge 2025 goal: the digitization of the global credit union system and was named winner of the WOCCU’s 2021 Digital Growth Award!

Leonil Alabado, Chief Operating Officer of Barbaza Multipurpose Coop, one of the coops with the biggest usage of KAYA, explained that in the local dialect KAYA means “to be capable”.
Both NATCCO and PFCCO remain committed to providing more ‘’capabilities’’ to their co-op members. NATCCO’s CEO Sylvia O. Paragua believes that ” KAYA will be the way not only to connect the cooperatives in the Philippines but, in the future, also all the cooperatives in the world’’.
