Press release from: i1connect

New York 7/11/07 - Today, upon his return from Europe, 2008 Presidential Candidate Daniel Imperato spoke out on the recent terrorist attacks in Yemen.

Last week, Seven Spaniards and two Yemenis died in the attack when then suicide bomber rammed his car into a group of tourists visiting the ruins of a temple linked to the ancient Queen of Sheba.

The attack came less than two weeks after the U.S. Embassy warned Americans to avoid the area around the temple in northern Yemen, which until recent years was rarely visited because of frequent kidnappings of foreigners.

The attacks have been reportedly linked to al-Qaeda. Earlier today an Egyptian man, Ahmed Bassiouni Dewidar, was identifeid as the planner of the attacks with al-Qaeda links.

2008 US Presidential Candidate Daniel Imperato spoke out on the issue.

"I call on Arab League and the international community to support Yemen. It is a strategic gateway to the Middle East and Africa and is of key importance to the fight against terrorism. I have been calling for our US Government to increase his awareness of Yemen for over a year and now I think it is about time that they took notice."

Back in February 2006, Jordanian based Al-Bawaba and Yemen based NewsYemen ran an article on Daniel Imperato that was widely read throughout the Middle East, "2008 White House Contender on United States and Yemen Jailbreak and USS Cole Terrorist Attack".

During that article Imperato was quoted as saying, "The history of Yemen has been that of a very strong strategic position pertaining to the previous war with Russia and the interest that Russia had in the region. I specifically state that history should not repeat itself and that the current situation in Yemen shows clearly the potential inability for the administration of Yemen to maintain the relations needed with the USA in order to securitize ports in Yemen , which is strategically positioned between East Africa and the Middle East," explained Imperato.

Because of its strategic position, Imperato felt that Yemen could be used as the gateway for many inappropriate activities.

"The strategic country of Yemen could be used as the gateway to terrorism, illegal drug trafficking, and inappropriate shipping of materials that may be hazardous to the world. The government of Yemen has been playing a very interesting role. They have been appeasing our President George W. Bush, who is blinded by the fact that the money being spent may have not been for the interest of America or that of the region. Yemen has also taken money from countries such as France, but behind the scenes the most important issue is that money that possibly could be coming into the country that may be from terrorist organizations like Al-Qaeda, who would like to see Yemen and the region in turmoil" asserted Imperato.

The United States, in Imperato's estimation, needs to support an administration in Yemen that has a positive plan to benefit the region and the world.

"The President of the United States of America must support an administration in the country of Yemen that has proven relations with the United States of America , with the interest of the USA and everyone at hand, specifically the people and the citizens of Yemen. We need an administration that has the ability and desire to curb the evolution of the country of Yemen's direction which could be going the wrong way."

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has offered a $76,000 (euro56,000) reward for any information about those responsible for the recent attack in Yemen.

When asked about the $76,000 reward, Imperato commented as follows: "We are fighting a multibillion dolllar war against a well financed group of people. Al-Qaeda is selling weapons, drugs, and is using that money to cause destruction around the world. To be serious about removing terror from the Middle East everyone needs to have a clear committment."

In the end, Imperato believes that a peaceful region is possible. "I stand for peace. I believe that we can curb terrorism and establish a peaceful Middle East. All we need is good leadership and a willingness to solve this problem from the roots."
