Alton Towers Resort chooses Quartix to track its vehicles

After reviewing the market, Alton Towers Resort has opted for the Quartix system to track their 12 vehicles. They have been using vehicle tracking for 4 years but decided to change suppliers, looking for new features, better pricing and improved reliability. The Quartix system ticked all the boxes, offering driving-style monitoring and flexible 12 month contracts. Chris Richbell, Transport Manager, was also happy to move away from the third-party leasing they had in the past: “Direct rental made it attractive, and the cost is great”.

“The important thing for us is delivering the best customer service possible”, explains Mr Richbell. The transportation team check the live tracking feature throughout the day so they can inform guests where vehicles are at any time, and be a step ahead if the drivers ever find themselves in slow traffic. Daily reports also enable them to see each vehicle’s activity in clear and concise tables, whilst Driver ID tags identify who is driving each vehicle at all times.

As an important influence in the community, Alton Towers Resort is also dedicated to keeping its local villages and roads safe. “We’re big on safety”, says Mr Richbell. “It is clear to us that using the driver style feature has been a deterrent for speeding”. The driving-style monitoring also helps them cut fuel costs, as when speed increases, fuel economy reduces. Studies show that the average car will be at its advertised MPG at 55 mph, but will become 17% less efficient at 70 mph. “I definitely look at good driving to help our finances”, explains Mr Richbell. The built-in monitor analyses driving style in terms of acceleration, braking and speeding, with no connection needed to the vehicle CAN bus.

Driving well, safely and within the law is a fundamental part of being in the Alton Towers Transport team, which is why Mr Richbell likes to keep an eye on the quality of the driving from day to day. “The Quartix system obviously helps us offer a better service externally, but also helps with discipline internally if needs be”.

Alton Towers Resort is now looking forward to making the most of the Quartix technology, using all the different features the system has to offer: “We are going to start exploring how we can use the other functions available on the system”, says Mr Richbell, “like checking the mileage which we don’t do enough of now”.
