Leaked Apple IDs show how vulnerable consumer personal data is
ALLOW helps consumers with early warning system and ‘disposable’ emailConsumers need to take steps to look after their own personal data, according to ALLOW, the London-based personal data company. An early warning system would minimise the risk of fraud, malicious links and junk mail. A ‘disposable’ email would prevent spam.
Justin Basini, CEO of ALLOW said: “The news today that an FBI computer has been hacked and that the personal data of up to 12 million Apple customers has been compromised is extremely concerning. It will be a worry for any iPhone and iPad user who will be wondering when they might suffer from spam or worse, an attempt to commit crime and de-fraud them.
“There is no fool-proof way for the man on the street to prevent a hack, but people can use some sort of early warning system, so that at least they know immediately if their information is exposed. This would limit the risk of fraud, plus a ‘disposable’ email, like the one that we can generate, would mean that you never need to give out your real email address in the first place.”
ALLOW recently launched ALLOW Protect, the UK’s most comprehensive solution to protecting personal information and privacy. ALLOW Protect:
• Monitors for exposure of sensitive personal information and alerts the users immediately if any of their data is at risk. This data could be a credit card or bank account number, for example, or an email address.
• Generate a unique, one-off email address when registering with services such as Apple or any other site, so that the user never has to divulge their real email address again. This cuts out spam.
With privacy stories hitting the headlines every week, ALLOW has taken a huge step towards helping people in the battle for their personal data. Also in development is a unique privacy insurance policy, essentially ID fraud and ‘personal reputation insurance’.
Justin Basini added: “The personal data industry is a minefield for consumers and loss of privacy is an increasing source of irritation for millions of people. We’re here to solve that problem, and be on consumers’ side when it comes to the battle for their data. We are a company that has privacy embedded in our technology and systems and we go further in the area of consumer privacy than any UK company has before.”
ALLOW aims to give consumers a way to fight back against the relentless erosion of personal privacy. The trade for data is significant and lucrative. ALLOW is bringing transparency to this market, letting consumers know that they don’t have to be a commodity and that they can be in control.
