Auctionbytes report based on eBay data trends show alarming downslide

Natick, Massachusetts -- July 03, 2007-- AuctionBytes (auctionbytes.com) today released a report that examined buyer and seller metrics on eBay.com and revealed problems on the US site that began in the first quarter of 2006 that have yet to improve. The report titled "Data Points to Problems on eBay.com" examined industry-wide Alexa rankings, Medved's eBay.com listing numbers and Nielsen/Netratings data on average time spent on eBay.com.

Nielsen/NetRatings shows that eBay users are spending less time on the site than in previous years. In 2006, eBay published a Seller Central Report that showed visitors spent more time on eBay than on other sites and that time spent on the site is increasing year-over-year. The auction site used data from December 2003 to March 2005 to prove its point. A look at more recent data recently acquired by AuctionBytes reveals that time spent on eBay has actually decreased.

eBay sellers reacted to the AuctionBytes report strongly. An AuctionBytes blog post about the report grew to over 90 comments only hours after the report's release. From low-volume sellers to merchants such as eValueville.com, the largest auction clothing retailer in the world, readers have contributed descriptions of how their own eBay businesses are faring and what issues they face in listing on eBay.
