The Waukegan Port District Announces the Dedication of Customs & Border Protection Building at Waukegan National Airport

Waukegan— June 17, 2021 — Today, the Waukegan Port District Announces the Dedication of Customs & Border Protection Building at the Waukegan National Airport. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 18, at 9:00 AM at the new facility located at 3558 N. McAree Road, Waukegan, IL.

“The CBP facility is another successful private-public partnership at the Waukegan National Airport,” said Skip Goss, General Manager. Chairman Grant Farrell of the Waukegan Port District added, “Our discussions with Homeland Security began in 2012. Today the Airport has a modern facility that meets the stringent Homeland Security requirements, thus enabling Waukegan to be an international port of entry for the next 20 years.”

Founded in 1955, the Waukegan Port District (WPD) is a government unit with seven members appointed by the Mayor of Waukegan (4) and the Governor of Illinois (3). The WPD was created by Illinois Statute 66 years ago, and it is responsible for governing the Waukegan National Airport, the Waukegan Commercial Port, and the Waukegan Marina. Since its creation, the District has been financially self-sufficient, funding operating expenses and capital improvements with user fees and federal grants. The District has limited taxing and bonding authority and has never levied a tax upon district residents or businesses.
