Office Building “Berlins Grosse Freiheit” at Stralauer Allee

Entire building on the Spree embankment is let long-term—Completion of Berlins Grosse Freiheit planned for 2013

HOCHTIEF Projektentwicklung has already sold the transparent office building, Berlins Grosse Freiheit, which has a rental area of around 9,500 square meters, prior to completion of the shell. Deka Immobilien acquired the building at Stralauer Allee 4 which is fully let. The office new-build should be ready for tenants in early 2013.

The office building forms part of the “Mediaspree” development area in Berlin—a lot of around 4,460 square meters on the Spree embankment. The property will have parking space for roughly 140 cars and about 70 bicycles. The seven-story building will be given a striking ceramic facade, with the wraparound glass surfaces giving it a light, transparent look. Berlins Grosse Freiheit will meet LEED Gold standard. To ensure sustainable construction and operation, various measures are being taken including the use of environmentally-friendly, regionally sourced construction materials, and needs-based indoor lighting with energy-saving lamps.

A new work by the artist and sculptor Paul Egan is now on display in Berlins Bremer Gallery. The work titled “Quantum Tunneling” is a limited edition cold-cast bronze figure. The sculpture depicts a figure apparently disappearing or “tunneling” through a wall. The work, as the name implies, was inspired by a phenomenon in quantum physics whereby subatomic particles are able to move in ways forbidden by classical physics. More information
