“META Seal of Recognition” 2012 for EML

European Award for Excellence in Software and services
At the second META-NET Forum in Brussels, EML European Media Laboratory GmbH was awarded the META Seal of Recognition. The META Seal of Recognition recognises excellence in software, products, and services which actively contribute to the European Multilingual Information Society. The META Technology Council, a panel of 30 experts drawn from the European Language Technology landscape, recognises EML´s contribution to this goal.

At the award ceremony with some 300 people, EML´s R&D manager Dr. Siegfried Kunzmann presented the company, its products and services to the audience. In a letter to EML, John Judge, CIO of META-NET, said: “We’re certain that this award will help raise EML‘s profile and increase recognition with important stakeholders in the European Multilingual Information Society.”

EML European Media Laboratory GmbH is a private IT enterprise established by Klaus Tschira, one of the founders of the SAP AG software company. EML is pursuing research and development in the fields of human-computer interaction and automatic speech processing, with a focus on solutions which automatically convert audio into text like automatic transcription for telephone conversations and voice texting / voice search applications.

META, the Multilingual Europe Technology Alliance brings together researchers, commercial technology providers, private and corporate language technology users, language professionals and other information society stakeholders. META is preparing the necessary ambitious joint effort towards furthering language technologies as a means towards realising the vision of a Europe united as one single digital market and information space.

EML has been a member of META-NET since 2011. Through the EU funded research project “TransLectures” the company is collaborating with META-NET. The aim of the project is to provide user-friendly and cost-effective solutions for transcription and translation of educational video lectures provided in online repositories via the Internet.

The META Seal of Recognition is awarded annually to select products and services which actively contribute to the initiative’s goals. This year is the second time the Seal of Recognition has been awarded at a special ceremony as part of META-FORUM 2012 held in Brussels, Belgium.

In accordance with its motto “Experience IT – Intuitive Technology” EML is successfully pursuing research and development in the fields of human-computer interaction and automatic speech processing.
