From Chandigarh to Chile: An Indian Start-Up to help South Americans in the Fight Against Corona Virus

Ceyone Consultants LLP, a Chandigarh-based start-up has emerged as the frontrunner in the fight against corona virus. Theanti-microbial nano coatings made by this company for protection against corona virus and all other pathogens is now in high demand among companies in South America which make masks and PPE kits. These nano coatings are also in demand among hospitals, corporate houses, education institutions and households in India.

The coatings can protect surfaces from the attacks of viruses, bacteria, fungi or any other pathogens. Scientific studies have proved that corona virus is inactive on any surface upon which this coating is sprayed.

The NANO-VOXcoatings made by Ceyone Consultants LLP have been tested by an NABL-accredited lab in India and a government accredited lab in Chile, South America. These coatings have also been validated by the Surface Tension Lab in Panjab University, Chandigarh. Ceyone Consultants has named these coatings VOX-4, VOX-11 andVOX-438, depending upon the type of virus.

The coating is developed by team of researchers at Ceyone Consultants LLP under the mentorship of two professors from Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Prof SK Mehta and Prof HPS Kang.

Er Rahul Thakur, the lead nanotechnologist at Ceyone Consultants LLP said metal-based functionalized nanoparticles stick to the outer membrane of the virus and damage its DNA or RNA, inactivating it and preventingitfrom forming colonies.

MsGayatri Thakur, Founder and Director of Ceyone Consultants LLP said that nanotechnology based thin-film nano coatings were initially used as surface protectants against corrosion and mechanical resistance in industrial setups.

With recent advancements in nanoscience, nano-composite based coatings can protect surfaces from the attacks of virus, bacteria, fungi or any other pathogens.This protection can last for many months, said Prof Mehta.

Ceyone Consultants LLP was among the first ones to commercialize these in anti-microbial nano coatings in India during the start of the pandemic in 2020.

Er Thakur said the spread of coronavirus is either due to its airborne properties or surface contamination. Nano coatings work in combating surface contamination. Metal-based nano composites create a strong adhesion with the surface that it is sprayed upon. This continuous electro-potential of nanocoating makes the virus, bacteria or germs inactive. The action is continuous unless the coated surface is exposed to by an acidic or corrosive substance. These coatings are non-toxic, hydrophobic (resistant to water) and non-flammable. The coating can last upto three months without reapplication

As per the reports the products have been tested on influenza virus, whose genome structure is the same as the corona virus. It has been tested on e.coli, fungus and other pathogens. The coatings measured a 99.8 % reduction in microbial count in less than a minute.
