Product tests and comparisons now occupy a fairly high proportion on the World Wide Web. As a search engine, Google has long been aware of this. For a long time, however, there were no specific guidelines. So anyone who ran a niche site focused on the usual on-page optimization. But without knowing what good rankings mean for this type of website. With the “Product Review Update” that has now been rolled out, things will become concrete.

Product tests receive more precise framework conditions

If you want to achieve good rankings with product reports in the future, you may have to be prepared for more. Instead, product data are simply compared with one another.

Google is now making it pretty specific with its Product Review Update. The following aspects are relevant:

• Does the experience report show more than just the manufacturer's images? Your own photos and possibly videos should gain significantly in weight.
• Does the author list specific key figures for the product so that it can be compared with others?
• Is there a comparison of several products of the same type?
• Does the author emphasize what makes the tested product different from others or what makes it better?
• Are the advantages and disadvantages of the product sufficiently highlighted?
• Will there be an update later, for example to focus on improved versions of the product?
• Can the decision to buy the car be clearly understood?
• For what purpose does the author recommend the product?
• Does the field report provide expert knowledge that cannot be found anywhere else?
• Do comprehensible processes appear in the text? In other words, in which situations was the device tested and why?
With these requirements, Google sets important framework conditions. Which should lead to the sorting out of previous niche pages with little or only copied content. Here, too, the aim is to provide the reader with as much useful information as possible. In a well-prepared, comprehensible structure.
