MARR's Kendall Weinberg Visits Radio Sandy Springs

Atlanta, Ga. – June 25, 2012 – MARR’s Kendall Weinberg, director of the Women’s Recovery Center, will visit the Radio Sandy Springs studios on Tuesday, June 26 at 4 p.m. to discuss women and addiction with host Dr. Susan Blank. The show, Detailing Addictions with Dr. Susan Blank, MD, takes an in-depth look at various forms of addiction in America. Weinberg will explain how women are affected by addiction differently than men, and why gender-specific treatment is essential for lasting recovery.

“Our goal is to educate the community about the issues women face in active addiction,” said Guerry Dyes, CEO of MARR. “We hope to lessen the stigma that surrounds chemically dependent women and serve as a source of hope for those who are struggling with addiction. There is help.”

Weinberg joined MARR in 2002 and has been instrumental in developing the gender-specific program at the Women’s Recovery Center in Lawrenceville, Georgia. At the center, clients are provided a safe and structured environment that allows them to work on specific issues. MARR focuses on intensive addiction treatment and the therapeutic community model as the primary agent of change.

Oftentimes, women in addiction treatment must also address other core issues. Dr. Blank and Weinberg will discuss drug and alcohol addiction in women, as well as the issues that surround their addiction (i.e. disordered eating, post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD], shame and guilt, and codependence). “We want chemically dependent women to know that they are not alone, and that they can recover from addiction,” said Dyes. “And it is our hope that they will not only recover, but find their voice also.”

Visit www.radiosandysprings.com on June 26 at 4 p.m. and listen to Dr. Blank and Weinberg talk about women and addiction. For more information on MARR’s Women’s Recovery Center, call (678) 805-5131.
