Raleigh, NC (June 15, 2012) Rachel Gogal, of Garner Magnet High School, and Alex Garver, also of Garner Magnet High, have been awarded the 2012 National Pawn scholarships for students in the Wake County Public Schools. Each student received $1,000 toward college expenses. Rachel will be attending UNC-Chapel Hill, where she will major in either political science or education. Alex will attend the College of Management at NC State.
"I am pleased to be able to help such deserving students pursue their higher education," said Bob Moulton, owner of National Pawn. "I’m confident that Rachel and Alex, as have the students we’ve awarded scholarships to in Garner for the past seven years, will excel in college, as well as in their careers."

Rachel is Senior Class Vice President, and is involved in the drama and chorus departments (playing the lead in two of three drama productions), and is on the soccer and cross-country teams. Alex is multi-talented, showing evidence of his leadership in the three-pages of community activities listed in his application. Activities include the UNC-Wilmington Young Writer’s Camp and the Hugh Shelton Leadership Challenge.

“I would like to extend our sincere thanks to National Pawn for sponsoring scholarships for Garner Magnet students. Bob's mother really did, 'teach him right.’  She taught him to have a benevolent spirit and share for the good of others,” said Sue B. King, Chair of the Scholarship Committee of the Garner Educational Foundation. “As for the winners, Rachel takes each task assigned to her as an opportunity to gain understanding.  Her commitment to athletics, student government, and fine arts make her a well-rounded student. Alex is as competent, open-minded, curious, kind, and intelligent a student as you will ever meet.”

With foreground and background largely erased, each artist leaves it to the viewer to choose the topsy-turvy direction. Here's one storyline. Here's another. Here's an endless number of storylines vibrating on the surface. Kaye's granular drawings are seasonal, even hourly, depictions of light and intimacy. They blanch in the yellow California summer. They fold in, purple and blue, at twilight. The borders disappear as her shapes meander across one another,
