Washington, D.C. (June 21, 2012): Procter & Gamble has awarded a grant in the amount of $50,000 as part of its corporate cause, Live, Learn and Thrive, to SOS Children's Villages in support of the SOS Village in São Bernardo do Campo (São Paulo, Brazil). SOS has been providing loving homes to orphaned and abandoned children in Brazil since 1970. Over 12,000 children and adolescents benefit directly from SOS programs in Brazil, with a goal of reaching 40,000 by 2016. The donation from Procter & Gamble will be a significant factor in reaching this goal.

SOS operates 16 Children’s Villages in Brazil that provide long-term homes to children who do not have biological families to care for them. There are thousands more children in Brazil who are growing up in biological families and also require care services. SOS is developing Family Strengthening Programs to address the needs of these children, their families and their communities by:

- Fostering communities that protect children against abuse and allowing children to grow up in safe, protective family environments
- Ensuring that children receive age-appropriate, quality education
- Improving physical and mental health care service availability for children, adolescents and young adults

“Procter & Gamble has been a valued partner to SOS Children’s Villages since 2007, supporting the development of children and communities through their global Live, Learn and Thrive program. We are so pleased to have them join with us in strengthening a community in São Paulo that was devastated by massive flooding and landslides in 2010. The community and SOS have come together to protect those who are most vulnerable. With the assistance of Procter & Gamble we will reach even more children and families in need,” said Lynn Croneberger, Chief Executive Officer of SOS Children’s Villages – USA.
