Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is used for managing a wide range of wound types, including traumatic, hard-to-heal, and chronic wounds. It is also used to manage wounds that are covered with flaps or a skin graft. NPWT is transformed into a medical device such as a single-use NPWT device, and it is a small pocket-sized battery-operated device. As the name suggests, these are disposable and portable devices generally used for outpatient care.

Moreover, as per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC's) data in January 2021, chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes are among the leading causes of morbidity, mortality, and disability in the US. It is estimated to account for ~US$ 3.8 trillion in the nation's annual health care expenses. Chronic diseases can cause long-term injuries and make the healing of wounds, such as post-surgical wounds and accident-led wounds, difficult. Different types of devices are used to manage the wounds as the wounds need to be cleaned regularly. Negative pressure wound therapy systems are used to manage and ease wound healing. It is an FDA Class II device that operates on a battery or electricity, and each device consists of a vacuum pump, drainage tubing, and wound dressing set. The systems help in wound-healing through negative pressure (suction). They also help remove fluids such as irrigation solutions, bodily liquids, wound exudate, and infectious materials present in the wound area.

In terms of wound type, the single-use negative pressure wound therapy devices market is segmented into traumatic, surgical, venous leg ulcers, diabetic foot, sports injuries, and others. In 2020, the traumatic segment accounted for the highest share of the market. It is estimated to dominate the market during the forecast period. The growth of the market is attributed to factors such as increasing rate of road accidents, rising innovations in wound care products, increasing R&D activities, rising advancements in the field of wound care research, and increasing awareness about wound care treatment & management.
