Canadian Pardon Services Launches Guide to Help Canadians Get Criminal Record Sealed

4.5 million Canadians have criminal records. This could be your father, mother, child, or grandparent, who has made mistakes and want an opportunity to correct these mistakes.

Organizations such as The Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies, Canadian Federation of Students, Canadian Union of Public Employees, and Canadian Civil Liberties Association are just a few which oppose Bill C-10 because, as Executive director Catherine Latimer, of John Howard Society, states, “it has the unintended consequence of injustice and reduction of safety in our streets and communities.” Amnesty International coordinator, Hilary Holmes says, “Of course it’s a problem if someone can’t get a pardon if they need one.”

Priya Kumar, from Canadian Pardon Services says, “The Bill is onerous on individuals and makes it harder for them to become productive members of our society, contrary to the intent of the bill.”

On June 1, 2012, Canadian Pardon Services, in conjunction with other organizations, will be launching a new guidebook on how to suspend a criminal record. This guide will be free to organizations that help individuals in need.
