CASBAA Satellite Industry Forum 2012

Wired and wireless broadcast service providers will meet at the 2012 Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia (CASBAA) in Singapore this month for a day of technical and market discussions. CASBAA Chairman Marcel Fenez will deliver the welcome address, along with Andrew Jordan, President and CEO of GE-SAT. An opening interview with Michel de Rosen will follow. Rosen is the CEO of Eutelsat.

A forum with the theme "Asian Consolidation and Cooperation - A Harbinger of a New Age of Realism for the Asian Satellite Market? or Is It Business as Usual?" will feature top industry leaders, namely ABS CEO Tom Choi, Asia Sat President & CEO Bill Wade, Mr. Jodan of GE, Sky Perfect JSAT Senior EVP Inoue Osamu, and NewSat CEO Adrian Ballintine, with host Jeremy Rose, a Comsys Principal Consultant.

Asian executives will tackle market opportunities in the Asian satellite communications markets. Speakers include VP Huang Baozhong (APT Satellite), VP Fu Zhiheng ( China Great Wall Industry Corporation ), Chairman Pham Long Tran ( VNPT ) and VP Ted McFarland (GEO Satellite Communications, Orbital Communications International ).

John Medeiros, Deputy CEO of CASBAA, will discuss the implications of this year's World Radio Conference on the Asian SATCOM sector. David Hartshorn, Secretary General of Global VSAT Forum, and Yvon Henri, Chief of ITU Space Services Department , will also join the forum.

The Indian satellite communications and cable distribution market will be covered by Shyamal Mukherjee (Executive Director & Joint Tax Leader at PwC India), who will give introductory remarks on Indian cable TV and digital network market. Mukherjee, along with other telecom executives in India, will talk about the current state of the local digital economy. Other speakers include Philip Balaam, VP of AsiaSat Business Development ; Anjan Mitra, Executive Director of CASBAA India; Ashok Venkatramani, MCCS CEO; and Deepak Mathur, SVP of SES Commercial, Asia Pacific and the Middle East unit.

A forum entitled "Do the Needs of Asian Broadcasters Differ From the Rest of the World?" will be hosted by Broadcast & Digital Media Consultant John Wigglesworth. Speakers include Richard Ward, Manager of Satellite Engineering division of Telstra International; David Thomas , Director of Astro's Technology & New Media Division; Aaron Shaw, SVP of Operations & Engineering Division of Encompass Digital Media Asia; Ang Soo Khoon, Senior Manager of Technical Operations of BBC Worldwide Channels; and Anver Anderson, VP of NewTec Asia.

The CEO and Chairman of Arianespace, Jean Yves Le Gall, will look at the bandwidth pressure and market trends in Asian SATCOM sectors, along with host Simon Bull, Senior Consultant at Comsys; Barry Matsumori, SVP of Commercial and Business Development at Space X; Damien Garot, Director of Corporate Development at Eutelsat; Andrew Taylor, CEO of Pactel International; Soo Terry Bleakley, Regional VP of Intelsat's Asia Pacific Sales; and David Ball, Chief Technology Officer of NewSat.
