‘UF Chair’ by Sunon released with a clever, innovative feature

Sunon, one of the world's leading providers of premium, contemporary office furniture solutions, has launched the innovative ‘UF Chair’. This chair is as distinctive as it is original and combines the mobility and functionality of a conference chair with the comfort of an armchair. It is the answer to the demands of modern working environments.

The ‘UF Chair’, developed in cooperation with ITO Design, has a unique feature in the form of a vertically movable backrest that is also sound-absorbing. If one moves the backrest upwards, the chair offers a high degree of privacy; if one leaves it down, it conveys a communicative openness. “By means of its ad hoc changeability, it can react to different scenarios. The ‘UF’ is a micro workplace and combines the mobility and functionality of a conference chair with the comfort of an armchair. It is the answer to the demands of modern working environments”, affirms Armin Sander, Chief Designer and Proprietor of ITO Design, a renowned studio for industrial design based in Germany and Switzerland. With its multinational teams, ITO works increasingly for the office chair industry and can count on almost 20 years of experience in this segment. The ‘UF Chair’ is the first collaboration between ITO Design and Sunon. “We value Sunon very much as a competent partner” declares Sander, “in my opinion, Sunon has the power and the know-how to become a global player. ITO will accompany Sunon on this path.”

Sunon not only cooperates with well-known international designers and studios for its product range, but also operates in-house design studios in Hangzhou and Berlin, led by Mr Fude Niu, Director Sunon European R&D Center GmbH, where 138 designers and engineers are currently working on new solutions. In this way, more than ten new collections are created every year, which the company sells worldwide.

Many of the products have received worldwide awards for their outstanding design, including with the renowned German Design Award, the international premium prize of the German Design Council, which is one of the most recognised design competitions in the world. This includes the four Sunon office chairs ‘Aveza’, ‘UD’, ‘Alien’ and ‘H’UP’ as well as the office table from the ‘Round’ series, which won over the Jury at the German Design Award 2020. In its explanatory statement for ‘Aveza’ the Jury particularly highlighted “…special backrest mechanism that adapts to the movement of the upper body, for a comfortable sitting position.” The Jury judged ‘UD’ with “makes a great impression, with pleasingly clear shapes and pleasantly soft upholstery offering a high level of seating comfort. An inviting design." The Jury stated about ‘Alien’ “The special structure of the office chair’s backrest gives it an organic look that seems to be somehow not of this world. A fascinating design whose every detail has been thought through to offer the best in comfort and functionality.” For ‘H’UP’ the Jury outlined "(‘H’UP’) offers the best in seating comfort, with individual components – from the backrest to the armrest to the headrest – that can be easily adjusted according to personal preference.” The Jury justified the award for ‘Round’ with; “The elegant design cleverly plays with different shapes and geometries, successfully combining traditional design with modern aesthetics to create a coherent piece of furniture with an unmistakable character.” In addition, the UF Chair also received the "Selection" award at the Iconic Awards 2021: Innovative Interior.
