Lagos, Nigeria – 19 May 2012 – This evening MasterCard Nigeria hosted an exclusive UEFA Champions League 2012 Final Fan Viewing experience in the heart of Lagos for its loyal clients and cardholders. Among the VIP guests in attendance were Football Legends, Victor Ikpeda and
Peter Rufai who mingled with football enthusiasts.

It was an evening for the fans, comprising of face painting, football songs and the opportunity to mix with the creme de la crème of Nigerian society at the Fan Viewing event.

MasterCard card holders secured their place at the event by simply paying with their MasterCard card. In addition three Nigerian winners won a MasterCard Priceless Moment, which comprised of a trip to watch FC Bayern Munchen and Chelsea FC battle it out live in Munich during the UEFA Champions League Final.

Daniel Monehin, Division President for East and West Africa, MasterCard Worldwide, welcomed the guests to the event, which the company hosted for the second consecutive year. “MasterCard is committed to building long term relationships, and we have been a sponsor of the UEFA tournament for several years now. This longstanding partnership gives us the opportunity to give our Nigerian MasterCard card holders an unforgettable experience.”

He continued by saying that the UEFA Champions League competition incentivized Nigerian cardholders to experience the benefits of cashless payments, in support of the cashless Nigeria project initiated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Country Manager, West Africa, MasterCard Worldwide, Omokehinde Ojomuyide echoed his enthusiasm for the topic during her interviews on the night by adding, “MasterCard shares a vision of a world beyond cash with the CBN, cash is expensive to print, secure and distribute, it reduces the transparency of an economy, and it can impact negatively on companies’ ability to do business.
