In-Room COVID Testing Available at Casa Gangotena in Quito
(Quito, Ecuador) – Bound for the Galapagos Islands with Metropolitan Touring? Travelers need a negative Covid PCR test to keep everyone — locals and visitors — safe. Not to worry: Guests of the pioneer of travel to the Galapagos will be able to have a test administered at the restored 31-room mansion Casa Gangotena, where they’ll sleep overlooking Plaza San Francisco in the heart of historic Old Town in Quito, Ecuador. In keeping with health regulations instituted by the Ecuadorian Emergency Operations Committee, all travelers to the Galapagos Islands are required to show negative results from a Covid PCR test performed by a certified laboratory, taken no more than 96 hours before arrival. Metropolitan Touring has arranged for an authorized Quito-based laboratory to administer in-room rapid-result tests for those unable to access one before departing home as a service and convenience to its guests. This offer extends to all Metropolitan Touring guests staying in any Quito hotel and can be arranged by the Destination Management Company upon request.
When staying at Casa Gangotena, travelers can request this service at the front desk or with the Concierge. The cost ranges from US$80 — $120 depending on the lab; guests can pay the lab directly by credit card or in cash, or charge it to their hotel bill (with a 10% service charge).
Covid PCR Tests are available from an authorized laboratory by appointment at Casa Gangotena seven days a week from 11:30 am to 7:00 pm. Be advised, at least 24-hours notice is required by the laboratory to administer the test. Results are provided within 48 hours.

Metropolitan Touring is one of South America’s best known and most well respected travel companies, acting as a trusted operator in Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Chile and Argentina. Regarded as the heritage brand of the Galápagos, the company pioneered travel and tours to these fabled islands almost 50 years ago. Today, this legacy lives on through their trio of expedition vessels, Yacht La Pinta, Santa Cruz II and Isabela II, and its beachfront hotel on Santa Cruz Island, the Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel. Its holding group has also grown and evolved with its own unique hotel offerings on Ecuador’s mainland, Casa Gangotena in Old Town Quito and Mashpi Lodge in the Chocó forest, linked together with an ever-expanding selection of carefully curated tours, all of which allow visitors to truly get off the beaten track and under the skin of the destination.
