SGS to Oversee Testing in Turkish Gas Power Plants

SGS to Oversee Testing in Turkish Gas Power Plants

Enerjisa Chooses SGS for Performance Testing

Enerjisa (Joint Venture of Sabanci Holding and Verbund) has appointed SGS to conduct performance testing of ancillary services provided by four natural gas combined-cycle power plants located in Adana, Mersin, Canakkale and Bandirma in Turkey. SGS expert testing will determine regulatory compliance of these services.

Diverse supplemental technical services support the transmission of power from the producer to the consumer within local control areas to maintain the reliable operation of the overall interconnected transmission system. In order to assure operators state-of-the-art facilities and guarantee customers fast, accurate and safe power delivery, testing of these fundamentals in abidance to current directives is of utmost importance.

SGS Turkey the First to be Accredited

Only companies which have been accredited by Türkak are allowed to test performance of industrial ancillary services in Turkey, according to the 2008 revision of the Turkish Grid Code. Since obtaining accreditation in February 2011, SGS, the only approved provider of this service in Turkey, has been administering on-site tests at the aforementioned power plants.

SGS Testing

Compliant to current regulations, SGS provides regular, periodic testing in three-year intervals. Present standards require that every power plant adapting additional technical services submit a certificate as evidence of its capability to render such services and of its adherence to the regulated criteria. Although SGS Turkey has acquired accreditation in performance testing of all ancillary services listed in the Turkish Grid Code, only three sets of control tests are currently being implemented: primary frequency control tests, secondary frequency control tests and reactive power control tests. SGS inspection and testing methods are not meant to solve but rather to prevent problems in order to ensure a sustainable, safe and secure system. Based on the first-rate experience and competence in projects of this kind, SGS applies all prophylactic methods of testing defined to meet the requirements of the Turkish electricity system and market operators. As the world leader in testing, inspection, certification and verification, SGS looks forward to continuing its services in Turkey coinciding with the market demands.

The Rewards of SGS Services

Along with its accredited authority and unparalleled commitment to quality and excellence, SGS is able to provide both the highly-experienced personnel and technical equipment necessary to conduct on-site testing. Furthermore, SGS certification increases consumer confidence, resulting in more subscribers and larger returns. SGS is honored to have been selected by Enerjisa and anticipates a productive and profitable future in Turkey.

SGS is the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company. SGS is recognized as the global benchmark for quality and integrity. With more than 70,000 employees, SGS operates a network of over 1,350 offices and laboratories around the world.
