Metapurse Announces $2.2 Million NFT Acquisition

Metapurse, a crypto-based initiative that owns the largest known collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), announced today their successful acquisition of twenty 1/1 Beeple artworks for ~$2.2m. The acquired artworks were the 1/1 versions of the Beeple Everydays: The 2020 Collection, which were auctioned on Nifty Gateway over the weekend of December 11th, 2020.

Metapurse, financed by Metakovan and operated jointly with Twobadour, captures the zeitgeist of the NFT movement, acquiring culturally pivotal NFTs. For instance, the largest estate of virtual land, the first ever NFT released by F1, or the first ever programmable work of art. Since 2017, the team has already built a diverse, evolving portfolio of various NFTs valued at over $3.2 million in a third party audit from NonFungible. They consider Beeple’s collection a very important cultural marker of this generation.

Before entering the NFT space, the artist Beeple worked with top companies and artists, such as Louis Vuitton, SpaceX, Apple, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Marshmello, and more. Notably, Beeple has stood out by creating one new cryptoart every single day for the last fourteen years, having never missed a day. His recently auctioned Beeple Everydays: The 2020 Collection featured 20 of his most prominent artworks created over the past year. During this drop, Beeple sold roughly $3.5 million (in primary sales) worth of art. This unprecedented number trumped the previous NFT art drop records that stood at less than $1 million.
