Fern Thompson

Manchester interior design firm Jolie Studio has hired an award-winning London designer to expand its in-house team.

Fern Thompson, who has six years’ experience designing commercial spaces, has joined the Jolie team.

Bringing a wealth of experience in cutting edge commercial interiors, Fern will take a hands-on role in all of Jolie Studio’s forthcoming projects.

In her previous role, Fern was part of the team behind a string of industry awards, including Best UK Bar at the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2016 and 2017, as well as being shortlisted for Pinterest’s Best Restaurant Design 2018.

Having worked on projects for brands like Pret and Starbucks, as well as being the brains behind the iconic interiors of Waterloo cocktail bar Tonight Josephine - one of London’s most Instagrammable spots - Fern will be relocating from London to Manchester to join Jolie Studio.

Fern Thompson said: “Relocating to Manchester is an exciting prospect for me, both personally and professionally, as there’s such a buzz about the city right now. I’ve been a fan of Jolie Studio’s work from afar: not only is it one of Manchester’s best design practices, but the team’s core values align perfectly with my own. Together, we plan to explore the possibilities of sustainable and people-centric design across Manchester and beyond.”

Franky Rousell, founder and CEO of Jolie Studio, said: “We have a number of major projects in the pipeline, so Fern will play a pivotal role in these projects. She’s the perfect fit for Jolie Studio. She brings some impressive design credentials to the table, particularly in the commercial sphere, so we’re excited to see how Fern’s creativity helps us continue to grow the business.

Winner of the 2019 Mixology Project Of The Year award for its work on tech firm Matillion’s Altrincham offices, Jolie Studio specialises in designing sensory-led spaces for commercial, residential and amenity-based projects that drive positive behaviours in users.

Most recently, Jolie Studio has completed work on Deansgate Square, an ambitious residential development in the heart of Manchester, and NQ House, home of Manchester grime label This is NQ.
